So, I picked this up for a pretty low price. A Smith and Wesson Model 36-1 Chiefs Special .38 Special. It's in good, but used, condition (the blued finish shows some wear marks, but I got it to use) and the action is tight. I put some Hogue grips on it, and now just need to get a holster and I'm all set! Here's a pic of it with my Grohmann #3.

Those aren't Hogues, but Uncle Mike's grips.

What will be your woods load ?

I like that 3" barrel, an oft overlooked length.

You're probably right about the grips. I just had my local smith put them on while he was checking out the gun to make sure it was sound, and I could have swore he told me they were Hogue's. Either way, they are much comfy than the service grips that came on it (which were also chipped a bit). As for the rounds, the ones pictured are just Winchester 130 gr. target loads. But, I picked up a box of Hornady 158 gr. XTP JHP's that I thought I'd try out. But, since it's my first .38 I'm open to suggestions.
