New XM-18 is off center

I just got my first Hinderer, a 3.5" XM-18 and absolutely love it. my only concern is that the blade started off perfectly centered, but is now noticeably off-center (see photo). It doesn't rub the frame or anything, but I am still surprised that it has migrated to one side.

Is there a way for me to re-center the blade?

Likely your pivot screw backed out a touch...gently retighten, if that doesn't bring her to true there are other methods.

When you re-tighten the pivot screw it will bring the blade back to center. First completely remove the screw and apply a small drop of blue thread locker, tighten the pivot to the proper tension and let the thread locker dry.

If any other service concerns with the knife come up, please write me directly I will gladly help you out. I don't check here that often so you will get a faster response through email.

I can't reach him as he's deployed, but I have a buddy who has an XM which developed the same problem. He replaced the white nylon with PB washers and it took care of it. I'll ask him to post here with pics next time I hear from him.

The washers are teflon and contribute to the ice-on-glass feeling of blade deployment. I wouldn't recommend resorting to PB washers. If the centering trick doesn't work for you then have RHK take a look at it.

If your user name has any bearing on reality...Respect!

As for swapping washers it's not my speed or my reco.

Rob O. is THE MAN on all questions that need answered.

@OP----A little adjustment should bring it back to center, if you want it to stay then the thread locker is key. If its still an issue threads like Map pointed out give additional information.

Thanks. It was pre-Obama glory and I was on a vanilla team, but that doesn't make for much of a nick.

And yeah, more of a statement that it's been done by someone I know who was happy with the result, but obviously I'd defer to someone "in the know". They use nylon for a reason.

Welcome to the forum! Didn't get the significance of your username until just now. Major props and thanks for your service!

Hey thanks. This place is so active it's amazing. I login once or twice a day and there is hundreds of posts. Nice to see an active blade forum. I'll definitely want to donate for a higher member level. Can't seem to find that page.

I was stationed in VA and then Coronado and my family lived in Lake Tahoe. I would've stayed but it was tough with three little ones running around. My wife left Foreign Service on maternity leave and never went back. It worked ok as we were both in Virginia for a time. We couldn't make it as an O-2 with three kids on a single income, so I went back to school to get an MFE at Berkeley/Haas. I miss my buds terribly, but I always have some come to stay with us as we're close to Heavenly and Squaw. Wife gets a little ticked when guys show up at the door with no notice, but that's life.

Copy that.

Thank you for your service. Very humble in the "vanilla" comment.

Haha. That's what Six calls us behind our backs. I served to the best of my ability and would've gone for Dev Group if I'd stayed. So many lost in the past few years. I was surprised and disheartened that Obama mentioned Giffords but not Chris Kyle during the SOTU address. RIP Brother.

You chose a great place to settle down! I used to live in SF and also shared a little place on the NV side of Tahoe with some friends. Spent much time at Heavenly, Squaw, Northstar, broke my collarbone at Alpine Meadows, fun times...
It is too bad that Obama didn't mention Chris Kyle. It would have been a fitting tribute.

And yes, great group of guys here on the Hinderer forums. It's my favorite forum of all 3 major knife forums (USN and JD). A lot of fun - stick around!

Devgru66 right on with that comment about Kyle, a true American Hero. Hats off to you also, appreciate all that you have done! Congrats on scoring your Hinderer.

I often do not comment on these type topics...but I will say that the losses do not go unnoticed. From RPG hit in Stan to an Embassy and the recent TX range, no loss flys under my radar. RIP to all.

I was at Northstar last week. We bought passes everywhere during that heavy snowfall here at 6k feet, only to not see it again. It's about 50 today and I can't bring myself to ski on a sno-cone.

I have a ZT 0560 and plan on gifting that to my 11yo on this birthday this Saturday, which will allow me to justify an XM-24. I am a little paranoid, but he's wise beyond his years. He covets my AUG, but mom put a stop to that. Maybe when he turns 18.

Hitting 50 today!

Looks like a great time to transition to "The Front Porch" so, "My New XM blade is off center" doesn't keep plastering the New Posts page of BF.
Thank you
