New Year's Knife Resolutions

My resolution is to try not to buy so many weird, long-discontinued Spydercos next year. I went on a bit of a spree in that regard this year.

My prior years’ resolutions are still being adhered to: (1) no knives made by horrible people/companies, (2) number of knives limited to what can fit in my Gerstner-style knife chest (if it gets too full I must sell some), and (3) no knives made in China.

Every year I go through my collection and give some stuff away to friends and friends kids Usually the lower end stuff or stuff I regret. Perfect for casual users and teenagers. We live in the country so kids or teenagers usually have some sort of knife.

My resolution is to thin the herd a bit and not buy anything else before my 2 CRK orders arrive.

I am new to the hobby. I have learned a lot in the last five months. I have spent over $2500 on folders, fixed blades, sharpening gear, and accessories. I've come a long way from thinking my first good knife in August was expensive (Spyderco Delica, VG10, $88). My most recent purchase - received this week - is my most expensive so far (Bradford Guardian 5.5 Magnacut including Kydex sheath/clip, $319). So far I am staying away from the $500 knives!

In any case, in 2023 I will put my existing knives to more use, find my favorites, then sell those that don't get carried. And as always, keeping my eye on BF's Knife Exchange for some good values.
