New Year's Knife Resolutions

To finally get around to selling the two Hinderers I have but never carry.

I've become so enamored with my Buck 118 Pro that it's a temptation to move some of my other mid to higher end fixed blade knives along. A couple of Randalls, a Bark River Canadian with custom sheath, a Kabar/Becker Kephart, a CPK Kephart and a small custom I had made locally. None of which have any real personal history or meaning to me. They're just nice knives I have because they appeal to me. They're just not used

But, past experience has taught me to be careful moving things on that are difficult to replace. So my New Year's knife resolution is take it easy and don't sell or give away any of those at least until 2024.

What kind?

Depends on what strikes my fancy. I don't collect. I accumulate. Traditional and modern folding knives, mostly. An occasional fixed blade. Nothing too pricey or too cheap.
I may only need one knife, but I haven't found that one yet.

Buy knives from makers I’ve actually met and spoken with about their craft and/or smaller production makers. I’ve got enough Spydies and Benchmades.

Sell the ones I don’t use! I’ve already sorted them out….47 in total. The task begins in January. Very proud of myself for making the decision…..now the hard part is actually following through with it!

You might want to hold on the the CPK since they will no longer be making the Kepharts.

I'm going to try to limit myself to only buying a dozen knives in 2023 and most of them will be fixed blades, with an emphasis on Kepharts for this coming year. I have a lot of the knives I wanted the most, and some of the ones I don't have are either beyond my current budget or hard to get a hold of. I'll also likely buy a couple more axes, because you can't have enough of those either...

In 2022 I think I tried to only buy 24 and ended up buying twice that number, due to some binging moments and big sales, so by that knife math I should end up buying about 24 this coming year.

I will order something special for my 40th that is going to be for little more than year from now but what exactly it is - we have to see. I have to start planning so that I won’t be late.
Other than that I will try to refrain from too much knife buying.

Spend that money on knives instead

Focus on the ones that serve me best, and cull the rest.
Keep 'em sharp and use them.
Spend as much time outdoors as possible.
