new youtube mora fieldtest video by noss

Now that was actually a great test, good to see. ANd no concrete blocks or vice anywhere in site!

Having collected knives for 50 years, I got my first mora last year. Here I was with all that expensive steel and a $10 knife would cut better than most. I have come to the conclusion that a cheap Tramontina machete, a Mora, and a SAK is all I really need in the bush. But I still like "nice" knives.

Isn't the OD handled one Stainless though? In their destruction test (with concrete block) you get a close up of the handle. I still liked it though, thanks for the link.

+1, but I like my Wetterlings or Gerber hatchet in the bush too.

If I am camping, I always take my Gerber Camp Axe. I have had it for over 20 years. But just trekking through the Altamaha swamps, a machete will make do as a chopper without all the extra weight.

Thats the exact knife that I have, and it truly is a nice little user. Liked it so much that I'm getting a classic wood-handled Mora for my bushcraft adventures this summer - Although I won't be batoning wood like that - I'll leave that for the camp hatchet.

Cant be beat for the price, thats for sure.

Yesterday my girl brought me her Mora 511, she'd been preparing some food on one of those stupid glass cutting boards, and the edge on the belly was really badly rolled, to the point that an area about 1 inch long was completely blunt. I dont have a smooth steel, so I just removed the rolled edge and re sharpened it, which took quite a while, I hope that isnt a recurring problem, I havent had any issues like that with my 510 or 780.

Noss also has some other field tests up comparing the busse battle mistress to a gransfors 19" axe, but i've gotta say it's somewhat biased if for no other reason than his axe technique leaves a lot to be desired.

My technique was not the best using the Hunters AXE it is hard to use with only one hand because of the weight. My 2 handed technique could be improved. It is harder since the Hunters axe has a short handle.

The AXE did perform better when I cut the 10" plus log as I note in the video.

Cool, new videos on knifetests.com.I' ve only seen the mora field test till now though.
Mora knives really are very good knives, for the price.I prefer a ''real knife'' for general use though, but if i want to save weight, I just carry a Mora.

This Mora test was IMO one of your best. Nice to see a good practical test showing what a knife will do under normal uses and circumstance. Good stuff.

A question, is this field test new, with a new mora, or was is taken before the destruction test, just not uploaded?

tarmix101: Thanks. The field tests and the D test show different properties about the Mora.

miro44: The field portion was done before I did the D test. It was the same knife.

i love my mora scout but it looks like that guy almost puts the tip of the knife through his glove! That would hurt

I like watching the field tests almost as much as watching the destruction tests.
Its good to see some of the smaller bushcraft sized knives being put through their paces.
Nice to see you are always broadening the variety of test subjects Noss!
Whats next on the list?
:)

tholiver: I like doing the field testing. It give me a reason to go to the woods and gives me something to do when I get there.

I'll be D-testing a Chris Reeve Green Beret in about 1 week also the Ranger Rd-7
very soon. I'm going to test the CR first.

mmmotorcycle: Thanks. I have more respect for the Mora now since I finally got to use and abuse one. They don't look like much but they work well
and they are fairly tough and rugged for such a very thin and light weight knife. I'll buy another but one with a fuller tang on it.
