New Zealand....

Outstanding Pictures and Story Andy! One question though, "Who is the guy with the Yellow Face"? Seems like I have seen him somewhere before! Thanks again Andy

Thanks very much all !!!!!!!

How high up were you? Maybe you had mild altitude sickness.

How was the air in NZ? Maybe that was a factor that made you so tired? Maybe it was too thin?
..... don't think it was the altitude as down there we were below the hut (which sits around 1200m). and it went as quick as it came. Still baffles me.

Andy, is that the "well traveled" Sako you are using?
....nope this is my old Weatherby Vanguard in .300Win. Till I built that Sako up in the early 2000s this rifle went everywhere with me. Overkill for most tasks but it is what I had .. :D

he is one devilishly handsome man no doubt.... ;)

Good one.... once again, Andy, you came through with a great story!!!!:thumbup::thumbup:

.... always glad to hear from ya mate!!

Your ability as a storyteller and photojournalist is exceeded only by your taste in blades and bangsticks, mate! Thanks for giving us a taste of what it was like to be there with you!

.300Win. ... Overkill for most tasks ...

No such thing as "overdead". ;)

Lawrie[/QUOTE] ..... no critters mate, did fire a shot. Could have but just chose not to as I never saw a stag that got my heart rate up enough and we didn't get hungry enough to need to deck a doe for dinner... ;)

Still a little to go however..

That 300 will reach out there, which it looks like is a good idea considering the terrain. Nice looking trip, mate!

Great read and pics as always.

How about a knife question- what blade(s) did you bring?

Wow , those are really cool pictures, awesome landscape. Do you need to worry about snakes and spiders [emoji887] in New Zealand ?

Amazing as always Andy! Now that's living... great way to celebrate and get away! Thanks for sharing with so many pictures I know that's no easy task.

Thanks very much for the kind words all. A few to get but work is slowing me down at the moment.

... three, this time around it was my B4 Anorexic, Skeleton Key and a little Buck folder that I have had since my teenage years.

....thanks mate, and no, in NZ the only things that will kill you are the landscape and weather. They have spiders but not bitey ones and no snakes at all. Took me a few days to get out of the subconcious routine of watching where I put my feet and hands....it means now I will probably get stung by Mr Nolegs when I got bush here weekend after next.

Really beautiful country! Was the hut site fairly remote? Animal numbers good?
....the both huts are off on their own. Chopper took the hardwork out of getting in there. Lots of sign about, fresh fresh sign but the weather kept them in the thick and made hunting tough. We spent some time with one of the well known local hunters on the way out and it just seemed the weather was our issue, he knows the specific area well and that the deer are there and also that they just shelter (like anywhere in the world) when the weather sucks.

No snakes! That does it, I'm friggin' moving to New Zealand!!

That's tough about the weather. It's hard when you've got to play the hand you're dealt, and they're not all aces. I know you've been at it enough to enjoy the trip for its own worth though.

No disappointment from us at all mate, taking a trophy would have just been the icing on the cake. As the mate so succinctly put it, "just the excuse we need to come back next year" .. ;)

Ha ha! Perfect  Ya I knew your mindset would be to have a grand time first, with all the rest as bonus. :)

He and I have been friends since we were kids, we fall into a very easy and stress free (and somewhat juvenile at times ;) ) routine. We had a ball.

Haha, you'd be welcome to visit my "bush hut" anytime, we're overrun with the blighters!!!
