New Zero Tolerance 0850

i think this is a great knife and really want to purchase, BUT...
i have some minor issues that make me not want to.

1. the Blue in the weave is not carbon fiber. the only way to color carbon fiber is with epoxy, or Hypertel... else those blue fibers are a different material than carbon fiber and they are dyed blue. i dont suspect they are using blue epoxy because you cannot get that kind of weave with blue epoxy imho, so it is undoubtedly dyed fibers of some other material. what material that may be is unsure. if its kevalar, sweet, that still makes a strong and just as expensive if not more than carbon fiber, same with Hypertel. however if its glass or other less expensive fibers, then... your paying a premium for something that doesnt cost a premium.

2. the aluminum back spacer and thumb stud are just not my taste. it doesnt look bad in the least, but im not a fan of them.

3. how optimal is the heat treat for the blade? i havent seen any tests with ZT's 20CV vs other brands 20CV. if its a premium price and another brand can hold an edge for longer at lower angles... i just paid too much.

ill restate that these are MINOR issues i have. very minor. for $280 id buy it in an instant. for $320 i have reservations... but i think overall this could be knife of the year.

Pretty much agree to whats said in this post except for the 20cv part because it is pure speculation. Yes this seems to me a $280 at maximum folder. On the other hand, ZT 0920 seems to be priced right at $240.

Mine spins free. It will turn around, and around, and around. At first it was held captive after about 3/4 of a turn, but when I eventually tried to loosen the pivot (even when heated) the pivot just spun free. I think someone at the factory reefed on mine a little too hard.

Regardless, I got the pivot loose by making a simple tool to hold the presentation side still.

That's why I emphasized the word "can" spin free. On most knives, it shouldn't be an issue.
On the 0920 the other side is blank.. but has the same square milling that holds it. Never had them spin.

The 850 and 920 both seem nice (though i wouldn't buy it regardless without the KVT system)... but i just cant stand the chunks missing from the tops of the blades. I know it is totally aesthetic, but i cannot stand the look.. its just silly...

my other issue with zt's new lineup is they are not using metal washers next to to the titanium for bearing washers. the bearings make a big mark in the titanium. this isn't a major issue but I like to see it. not a fan of seeing my titanium with bearing wear.

if you zoom into the picture you can see the blue in the carbonfiber is clearly not carbonfiber. its like micarta or something like that. proofs in the pudding is all I'm sayin.

as for the steel, I dunno, need to have lots of tests done. even soft 20cv is going to outlast a hard s35vn ht IMHO. its just a really good steel overall. not to mention the stock angle will be just fine regardless, but at 15 give or take... how well will it do?
