Very different knives but I love them both. Which steel is superior s30v or Elmax? Which do you guys prefer? I don't usually buy spyderco knives and I do like them but don't care for some of their policies but I did get this one because I really liked it. It's very no nonsense. This is my first zt how do you guys feel about them? All comments appreciated.

Mostly the don't replace blades one other manufacturers will for a cost I prefer that. Zidfeldts that was both a stupid comment and uncalled for they make a quality product. I like the product but i don't necessarily like that one policy

I believe that zt is made here in america. Correct me if I am wrong.

as for the blades I also prefer zt over spyderco. Not for any policy reasons but just bc I feel like zt's are more "solid" feeling than spydercos. I think both s30v and elmax are great steels. Believe elmax may be able to slightly outperform s30v but you will hardly notice any difference with normal use. I like s30v better than either

I haven't bought a New ZT in a while I don't like there MAP policy . I do like spyderco over ZT but not by much . ZT is using more s35v on there new knives . IMHO they are charging a bit to much for that steel .

I don't do flippers or frame-locks, so I don't own a ZT (almost bought an 0350 once, though). Congrats! I'm not seeing the photos, however. :D

Just curious, why do you not like a MAP policy? I mean, I can take it or leave an actual policy because they tend to be joke.
I work in an industry where my products that I sell are supposed to have a MAP and the policy is either ignored or the violations to the policy are ignored.

That said, and this is just a guess, if KAI/ZT do police their policy is should be more brick and motor stores locally feel it's possible to stock high end folders and still make a profit.
It's one of the reasons, I assume, that a locally owned sporting goods store now carries ZT, and I was able to buy a 452cf for within $5 of Amazon. Bought it on the spot.

As for the question at hand, I would by either with confidence. Great knives.

I own both the PM2 and the 0566. Both are very nice knives. I tend to carry the PM2 more because it's a better slicer.

That was a stupid comment and I apologize. It added nothing to the thread. I do have a lot of Spydercos and a few ZTs and I really like the solid feel of the ZTs. I like the Elmax steel as well. I have a 0566 and think it is a great knife and I see it is on sale at one our BF dealers which makes it a bargain!

Can someone please explain this MAP policy or MAP pricing? I've heard it talked about with Benchmade as well but was not sure what it meant? I was thinking maybe it meant that they make a set price for their product that everyone has to abide by?

That is exactly what it means. Minimum advertised pricing. Makes it so the value is pretty much set for the knives. I actually like that so you know exactly what the knife is worth

I have a 0566 and many PM2's. The ZT is soild but I like the PM2 more. I like both steels. I'd like a m390 ZT.

I guess I got use to buying ZT for 20 to 30 % off . They do have knives that are worth the MAP price .

I like Spyderco AND ZT. I've had quite a few great knives from each. For my use, ZT often is too heavy in weight and blade thickness.
I have owned folders from that company that replaces blades for a decent price. Some of their folders are very nice and good slicers.
MAP is not something I like, but it doesn't affect me, as I seldom buy "brand new" from a knife-shop.

I'm becoming a real fan of Elmax, having an 0561, 0562 and Para 2 with Elmax blades. It sharpens about the same as S30V (I really like S30V) and it seems to hold the sharpness better.

I struggle to get S90V/S110V as sharp, though it's working edge holding is definitely superior. I'm finding Elmax to be a good compromise between these and S30V.

I will qualify all that with saying that my experience is rather limited compared to many on BF.
