Hold on now, I don't really feel it's fair to categorize the 0551 like this.
We opted to bring out the 0551 because of steel delay on the 0550. We didn't have to, but felt it to be the right thing to do based on some of the enthusiasm the design gained. There was no fiasco as far as I'm concerned. There were no promises made about the 0551 being anything other than a L.E. of which we produced 500 more pieces than we promised. The 0551 was intended to satisfy until we could get steel for the 0550, and that is exactly what it did.
Sprinkle that prayer with a little faith, and miracles can happen jj!!!!
Thomas,
This is the problem with these forums where people make written statements that can be taken any number of ways; as opposed to making a statement in person, face to face or while sitting around a fire and folks can read each others expressions and intent, so I'd like to clarify something.
Speaking strictly for myself, my "fiasco" comment wasn't a criticism of the company, or the numbers you produced or the motives behind producing said numbers.
I've followed these forums along long enough to know why you did what you did and I appreciate the fact that the 0551 was released as it was.
My reference to the "fiasco" merely referred to the fact that there were more people wanting a knife than there were knives. Nothing more, nothing less; so please don't anyone read into it any more than that.
My post was an expression of the hope that everyone who wants one will be able to get one. Not a commentary on Kershaw business practices which in my opinion are exemplary because they are willing to take risks by releasing these high end pieces; as opposed to just catering to the Wal Mart crowd.

I agree 100%! Well said.![]()
Thanks Thrill.
You know how these forums are. You type up a post with one thing in mind, then someone else maybe reads something into it and maybe even adds to your original statement. Next thing you know it's off and running like a wildfire out of control down a road you never even meant to take in the first place.
I should have just said I hope there are enough knives to go around and left it at that; but hell, even that probably could have been misconstrued anyway. . . Oh well. Live and learn.![]()

How about a picture of the stonewashed Ti next to the ZT0551?
