NEwb question- Do blades appreciate in value?

I already sold off my extra GECs, and I haven't considered purchasing any more. They aren't worth the current pricing (to me). Same with a couple other "hot" names - I kept what wanted and sold off the rest (well, there's one particular fixed blade I should have kept and invested in a better sheath; but I really don't miss it).
Who's to say what prices on any of those knives will be in five or ten years. Maybe they'll still be hot; maybe they'll be old news. Personally, I don't care - I only spend "extra" money on knives; and I consider it gone once I've spent it.
 
Something that I have noticed is Randall Made Knives. To get one you put $50 down today and order the knife you want and lock in todays price. It takes 6-7 years to get the knife. You pay the remainder then( list price from 6-7 years earlier) and the knife seems to be worth considerably more immediately on the secondary market. I ordered one because I like the knife, but in thinking about it it occurred to me that someone could maybe make money this way.

That's how a big internet Randall dealer got started years ago. He decided he was going to retire in a few years, so he started having family members, friends, Randall authorized dealers that sold at book, etc..... all place overlapping orders for him. He built a stockpile in a few years, and became Ebay's biggest dealer in them. His ordering scheme, plus his like for ordering odd combinations actually caused Randall to rework their ordering system a bit.

I do worry about Randall a little long, long term, mostly from the younger generation. Many of them seem disillusioned with Randall's steadfast steel stance mostly. It never bothered me, but a lot of the younger guys are new steeloholics.
