First post on BladeForums. Been into guns, and now getting into knives. Bought a few ESEE's (4 & 5) and now looking at a nice folder. Want to get a Benchmade, but have a question about their great warranty/ever-sharp deal. Does the knife have to be purchased from an authorized dealer to get any work done on it? There are many preowned ones I want, but also want to have the option of sending it in to them any time I want for some maintenance. Sorry if this is a commonly known fact, but not to me being new to this hobby.

they don’t ask for a receipt or anything like that to verify original ownership. a lot of my benchmades are older 2nd hand purchases, i’m into a lot of the vintage models. never had a problem sending them in for work. only issue is that if a life has been discontinued for a long enough time, there may no longer be parts available for them, especially blade replacements. other than that you’re usually good to go sending in order knives

No matter where you purchased it, as long as it's a genuine Benchmade, the warranty applies to it.

You have to pay for shipping for their sharpening service. IMO, that's money you're better off putting towards a sharpening system.
