newbie from central kentucky

hello every body. I'm fairly new here and am getting serious about making knives. I'm waiting on some 1095 Bowie blanks from great lakes water jet to get here so I can get to work with some files and sand paper. Any advise tips and pointers would be greatly appriciated. I've read through alot of the newbie thread and found it full of great info. Thanks in advance, Mike.
