I am about to start my first knife, and I have a question on the grind. How close to the edge centerline should I grind prior to heat treating? Can I grind it all they way to center or will that warp during a heat treat process?
Hey Dave, I am also new (very new) here but I think from, what I have read, a lot of that will depend on material and design. You may want to offer a bit of info on what you are making and with what.
The general rule is carbon steel...... no less than .020" (I think many people like to go thicker .030"-.040"). Stainless steel and higher alloy tool steels can be brought down much further.....like .010".
