lol..............YEH, i know. Is the hardness R60 unusual on the gryyls knife?. I dont plan on using it, but i imagine if i did, it would take chunks out of the sharpner.
Go ahead and use it. The Rockwell C scale is the normal hardness scale used for most working tools.
An RC of 40 is what you'd expect with a prybar or something else designed to be flexible.
An RC of 50 is what you might see in some hammers, chisels, and is approaching useful for a knife blade.
First of the pocketknives I know in the low 50s is Okapi and the Douk-Douk, both at 53. Case runs theirs at 56-57, while Victorinox runs Swiss Army knife blades at 56.
The harder it is, the longer it will hold an edge, to a point. It will chip rather than roll. 60 is a pretty common number in modern knives, though most steels can run higher and into the mid-high 60s.
