Newbie Hello & (Bear Grylls knife)

lol..............YEH, i know. Is the hardness R60 unusual on the gryyls knife?. I dont plan on using it, but i imagine if i did, it would take chunks out of the sharpner.

Go ahead and use it. The Rockwell C scale is the normal hardness scale used for most working tools.

An RC of 40 is what you'd expect with a prybar or something else designed to be flexible.
An RC of 50 is what you might see in some hammers, chisels, and is approaching useful for a knife blade.
First of the pocketknives I know in the low 50s is Okapi and the Douk-Douk, both at 53. Case runs theirs at 56-57, while Victorinox runs Swiss Army knife blades at 56.

The harder it is, the longer it will hold an edge, to a point. It will chip rather than roll. 60 is a pretty common number in modern knives, though most steels can run higher and into the mid-high 60s.

Welcome to BF! You'll enjoy it here!

But, since you're new here I think you should ditch your current collection and start fresh. And by "ditch" I mean send it all to me for safe keeping! :p

Getting one of our most controversial knives (nice way to say it),
and saying one of our favorite isn't special!

I see a special BF award in your future mister research! :barf:

dude... I would suggest looking into busse's... and looking at some information.
