Hello everybody!

Because I haven't found the proper place to introduce myself, let me do it here: I live in Spain and study Astrophysics. I've been a while around here, but not saying a word, just reading and learning a little bit. I am also into watches and I think this knife thing is just another vice...

The thing now is that I would like to begin collecting some of the good american knives I've seen around here. Unfortunately, my budget is very very low and forces me to begin with the lowest end of good brands (those manufactured in China). So far, I've come to these three possibilities:

- Kabar Warthog: is there any difference between version I and II? Which one is better?

- Kershaw Shuffle: here the knife would be the version II with stonewashed blade and brown handle. Good choice?

- Spyderco Byrd: here I am not sure of which model, maybe the Cara Cara 2 simple-blade, but... is the line worth being related with Spyderco??

So far I have an Opinel, Nº8 carbon-steel with very good edge after a year of use (I took care of it though).

So, what are your opinions? Does anybody own some of them? Could you give me more feedback?

Thank you in advance for your time!!

Cheers!

Friend who makes knives says the shuffle was awesome, and I always hear good about the Byrd. Kershaw cryo is also another popular one. And astrophysics, sweet. I'm on the road to being able to go to school to study nuclear engineering just one more year in high school

The Byrds are nice knives. In some ways better than Spyderco's budget offerings...
If FRN doesn't put you off, you are not a groupie for supersteels and don't check the finish of the handles with a loupe, Byrd knives will get you a lot of bang for your buck.

If the blade length is not off-putting to you, the Byrd Cara Cara 2 (in G10) is a fantastic knife for the price.

Byrd gets solid reviews, a Kershaw Shuffle is a great little bottle opener with a blade...

Kabar Warthog has crap Steel. Won't hold an edge. You'd be much better suited with a KaBar Dozier, or a Inexpensive Buck Bantam.
