I read every book on the subject I could find... I also watched the Loveless video. I dont hardly do anything like Bad Bob, but it did give me an idea about how things are done... After that its all blood, sweat, and tears.
I think ANYONE can make knives if they want it bad enough.
You also now have places like this, ask a question, and you get info from the best in the biz... Could have saved me LOTS of blood and tears..

I agree you should try to get some books, also try to find out if there's any smiths in your area that you could visit. There are a number of tutorials out there, here's two...

Good advise. You can learn more visiting a fellow bladesmith a couple of times than by reading. The books are great and alot of valuable information lies there in. However, unless you put your hands and eyes to the task, you'll only be learned not experienced.
Visit, watch, participate, learn and mix the reading in with process. Watch the forums for news about hammerins and go to one near you. Won't regret it.

Also check out www.customknifedirectory.com (it will forward you to a different site, but it's the same thing I think) and they have a whole bunch of good tutorials listed there. If I had any suggestions I would say, depending on your background, to work on a couple kits to get the basic skills down, before going full bore on your own blade, but it really depends on your dedication, experience, etc.

Welcome to the fun of knife making. I always give the same advice. Some may see it as negative but it is not meant to be.
Start with a smaller knife it is quicker easier and it may not break your spirit if it goes wrong. I have been making a little here and there for 12 years I still have stuff go wrong from time to time that is part of it when you are not a professional maker.
The other good thing about making a small knife first if you really wanted a big one it is bound to be better for the practice you got on the small one and you will have 2 knives before you stop. After 2 your hooked.
