Newbie looking for a knife

WOW! I never expected the response that I got. Let me see if I can sum up the questions. I had never thought of some of the questions that you guys asked.

I am looking for something small, lightweight, and non-threatening. I didn't think how odd it would seem to have a teacher looking for knives but I am a vocational teacher and my colleagues teach metal shop and wood shop so it is no big deal for them to carry knives.

Thanks for all the great suggestions I will defintely try to go to a big knife store and do some hands on shopping (then probably buy online). What are some good knife sites with low prices?

Hi Paul, and welcome... David had it righ on, Do yourself a favor, and you buy your first knife. Go to a Cutlery store that has a large selection of knives. Look around, and hold some. The knife you buy has to satisfy you. You will get more staifaction out of a knife that you picked out, than to buy a knife on someone elses suggestion.

Good luck!

Going to a knife store and trying out different knives is the best way to select a knife. You can go over to the Good,Bad and Ugly Forum here at Bladeforums to get an idea of some good and bad internet knife dealers. I like(in no particular order) Roger at Bayou Lafourche, Fred at KnifeOutlet and here at 1SKS/Bladeforums(A.K.A The Mike and Spark Show). There are others, but I tend to like these places. Happy Knife Hunting.

A Pat on the Back is only a few inches from a Kick in the Butt.

A Swiss Army Knife is about as good a first knife as you could hope to find. It is very useful, well built and non-threatening to the sheeple that infest school systems all over the country.
