Newbie looking to get started.

Todd, give us a update of what you learned today.:eek::D
Guys, he does spicy foods. He tried my Ht'g Relish and he passed. HEHEHEHEHE!!!!

Passed what? a kidney stone, out? What?

Update please... how much of your stuff got pee'd on by the dogs and IG? :D

He made a Cable Damascus Billet and Gary Rua did a forging demo on a piece of W-2 that I pressed out. I know one thing he learned for sure was brush and flux. It was probably ringing in his ears all to way home. And brush off the anvil.;)
He didn't put anything on the ground so nothing got Pee'd on. And I was a good boy too. HEHEHEHEHE!!! NOT!!!!

After spending the day with that rowdy lot, I suspect we may never hear from him again.

I've been so busy doing more reading on forges. I've been reading 50 Dollar Knife Shop for the past few days.
So George did a great job getting me hooked.
Learned so much:
Flux and brush, keep the anvil clean. (Ingrained in my soul at this point)
Sparks coming out the forge is bad.
Gloves help keep some of the hairs on your hand.
George has more handle material than he knows what to do with.
Gary can forge a knife faster than I can come up with a knife style.
Domino's Pizza has not changed at all.
Don't trust a man with HT relish, because you'll pay for it the next day on the crapper:D

Yep!!! The pizza sucked.:thumbdn::thumbdn:
I was kind with the HT'G Relish. HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!
Study well, will be have a test on your next visit. It will not be multiple guess.:eek::D

What I learned on my second visit:
1.) Forging a blade is so much harder than Gary makes it look.
2.) Keep the steel straight.
3.) Back in the fire when it looses color.
4.) Cutting out a blade profile is actually quite easy with a band saw.
5.) Take your time grinding the final profile
6.) File work isn't as hard as it seems.
7.) File work does take planning and patience and consistency. All of which I need to work on.
8.) The food at George's is so much better the second time you visit.
