Newbie needs a CC knife.

Why such a long blade? I'll assume that you've determined that they're legal from what you've said. If it's strictly for SD, I guess that's your option but for any knife I take out in front of the sheeple, I go for smaller and you had said you would be using this for other things than SD.

Personally I carry a Spyderco Gunting for SD, <2.5" blade is legal most places and the compression lock is great. It's not the easiest to CC because of the horn though and I don't know how easy it is to get one since they were discontinued. The Emerson Kerambit is also nice and deploys very quickly with the Wave feature and has a 2.6" blade. If you want a longer blade, I'd look at the Spyderco Paramilitary (a little over 3") compression lock and standard looking Spyderco blade (modified clip).

Wow, lot's of Spyderco fans :D

I changed my mind after I was attacked a few days ago, some random dude just pushed me into a wall from behind, now I'm gonna get SOMETHING to defend myself. I think of a knife as a psycological weapon, alot of people back out after seeing someone pull out a big, tactical knife.

Thanks,
Mike

P.S.
I may just carry my Victorinox Trailmaster as an EDC utility, or get a Leatherman Wave later on, so let's stick to combat/sd knives only :)
