I've made the decision to carry a knife as a backup to my P7. I've carried a folder (Spyderco Police, Kershaw, Benchmade CQC7, Ken Onion) for 10 years. I've recently moved to AZ and want to switch to a fixed blade between 3" and 6". My problem is I don't know who makes what. I would like to draw upon the groups knowledge to narrow the options. I was planning on a Mayo TNT until I desided to go fixed blade. My only requirements are Talonite blade and shank, with the ability to neck carry a bonus.

Welcome to the forums.

I would take a serious look here at Neil Blackwoods work. I have a small hunter/tactical in D-2. It is an awesome knife. He also makes it in stellite. I have a multi carry kydex sheath as well as a neck sheath for it. Since you mention talonite I assume you would be interested in the stellite version.

Rob Simonich. Long waiting list but can be found at dealers and 2nd hand. Good luck!

Can't go wrong with anything by Neil.

But since you mentioned a TNT, Tom Mayo also makes fixed blades in talonite too.

I know a few people won't agree with me, but I relly like the Randall Combat Companion, with the boarder patrol handle. I think that its a cool little knife... It has a 5" blade, which is a great size.
What ever you get ... Good luck!:)

I'm having trouble finding the link to Rob Simonich and Randall. The Blackwoods are quite nice. BTW, I think I'd like to be over 4"? Is this a bad idea?

I don't if money is a factor in this purchase your thinking about, but if its not, you also might think about Busse knives. Here are a couple of links to some makers, and I hope they will help you.
Good Luck 007!:)
Click on these links... Busse Knives
Randall Knives
Lamay Knives
Have Fun!:D

I like Snody designs, but there are two problems, he dosen't use Talonite OR accept new orders:(

Thanks for the help so far, I'm sure I'll find THE knife. I'm leaning toward a cross between thse two.

I like a very tall shank, and lean towards the Hawkbill droppoint, sort of like the smoking hole pistol designs that I can't find pics of.

For Talonite, check out the work of Trace Rinaldi. http://www.pe.net/~thrblade/ He does great work in Talonite and has a few neck knives on his site. I had him make me a larger Talonite blade that I am very pleased with. While he doesn't have a wharncliff/hawkbill shown on his site, I found him easy to work with and daresay he could make a blade to your specifications.

Unless you're a big 'un, going much over a 4" blade for a neck carry starts posing concealability and possibly weight issues.

Happy hunting for your blade and keep your wallet handy when buying Talonite. It doesn't come cheap. ;)

This would be another tough decision. Great suggestions although I do not think you can get a Randall or Busse in Talonite :).

True neither come in Talonite. To get a better idea what style's I dig, besides what I already posted, this Smoking Hole is near the top of the list, but again no Talonite.

Don't give up on me, we'll find a knife for me. I guess I need to deside on a lenght. From some posts, I'd take it that 6" is out, 4" is minimum, so I'm between 5" and 4" now.

This is damn cool, but too small.

What is the weight of Talonite, compared to Ti?
