Well, finally had my share of cheap knives, (buck 105), $10 Winchester folders, so i ordered a Spyderco Police C07PS stainless. Hope I didn't make a bad decision!

My second Spydie was an SS Police. Carried it for years. I'm sure you'll be pleased. The online pics and description still didn't prepare me for how BIG it was:eek: Brace yourself (They're a very comfortable carry, nonetheless.)

naw, not at all.
especially considering it's rock solid reputation.
the old "pride, integrity and guts" model says it all.
congratulations on your first purchase;
and hopes for even more "real knives" to come.

thanks for the feedback. now, i am already thinking about getting a second knife! so many to choose from. any other ideas? smaller one?

Spydie Police is a k!ck-@ss knife and a good start. Great blade geometry, and very solid design. The Seb's will come later (big difference b/w $100 and $400). . . .

The Stretch II blue frn is a great buy too. Where are you located in Canada? Where did you order your Police? I suggest filing your profile; welcome to BF!

Go for variety and look at some G10 scaled knives or other synthetic scale material. And yes, I would look at something a little smaller and a little lighter for those days when you might not want the size or load. I won't recommend anything because you already said it, "so many to choose from". But make sure you stick with a reputable knife company. The offerings from the better companies run the gammut not only in choices but pricing too. You don't have to spend a ton of money for a great EDC. I suggest thinking hard about what you want in a knife and be honest with yourself and then if you narrow down your choices we're all happy to offer our opinions. I'm sure most of us can honestly say that we've spent money on knives we shouldn't have in the early stages of our blade interests. If we can help you save some of that grief then we're all going to be happy for you.

Welcome aboard.

Many posters have recommended the Spyderco Sage. I bought one last week. It is truly wonderful. I can open it faster than my spyddie police.

I apologize if this is off-point. This morning someone asked about sub $30 knives. I cannot find the thread. Someone posted a link to Amazon for the Dozier KaBar Folding Hunter (3.5" cutting edge)for $18.95. This is a very strong knife for great price.

I do love my Sage, but it was $97 with free shipping.

First off, welcome to Bladeforums and knife collecting! :D

Now that you are curious about a second knife, I'd recommend sticking with Spyderco for the time being. It just makes it easier for you to learn more about particular knife models, ergonomics, pricing, etc. Plus, Spyderco is a top-notch company with great customer service. You made a good choice. ;)

If money is still tight, I'd recommend a Delica 4 full flat grind. For about $55, you get a wicked slicer that is a real joy to carry. If you're hard on your knives and want more of a tank, I think you would do well picking up a Manix 2. Once you start experiencing different locks, handle materials, clips and such you'll begin to figure out what knives you'll want and what knives to pass. The experience may hurt the wallet a bit but it's a lot of fun. Good luck!

I have the lefthanded Spyderco Stainless Police fully serrated. It carries nice, though it would be slippery for cleaning large fish. Works for cleaning small trout and for food prep when camping. Pretty good at resisting rust. I used to clip my Delica to my swim trunks when bathing in the ocean in Nicaragua. Never know what you would get tangled in. The Delica also clips to socks well. My older daughter borrowed the Delica 10 years ago and she still has it.

Welcome, Sunward - like it's been said, you probably won't ever regret purchasing any Spyderco. I'm a newcomer myself and I can feel myself spiraling into hopeless addiction already.

Get one of the new colored full flat ground Delicas. You'll find yourself wanting a smaller, lighter knife than your SS Police.

I got back into knives when I was leaving my old apartment one day and stepped on something that didn't feel right in the grass.
After digging under the grass, I pulled out an old Spyderco Police SE that appeared to have been there for years.
It was just a blob of mud.
After carefully cleaning it I discovered that even after years of being in the dirt getting watered and trampled on, it was still in almost perfect condition.
The old Police models seemed to have been a damn good build, imagine the quality of the newer ones...:) I'm pretty sure you made a good choice with your blade.
Welcome to BF.
There is a tremendous amount of knowledge here a lot of good guys willing to help the clueless (me).

When you say Buck 105 are you talking about this knife? That's a 105 and its certainly not a cheap knife.

Thats the one. Did a great job in field dressing a wild turkey! I won't let it go far, but its a fixed blade.

I'm looking for a pocket knife. Seems that Police is a tad large. Now even thinking of a para 2 (a bit smaller, better steel). Any suggestions?

You won't find too many here who would try to talk you out of a new Para 2. Nice knife ;)

welcome to bf

the police is a great knife and like previously metioned, carries very well for its size

as for a smaller folder, i would go for the spydie caly 3 or 3.5, they are exellent blades that are alot smaller than the police and legal to carry in alot of places

i must warn you though, spydercos are extremely addictive!! BEWARE!!:D
