newbie Q's about bali's

i'm a newbie to bali's - am thinking about getting maybe a BM 42 w/weehawk blade - is this a good choice? wanna spend about $150 or so....if the BM sucks what would you guys (and gals) reccomend.....

You can get them for $120.00 or less and they are a very good buy.


Then, you'll have enough left over for Mike Janich's Paladin Press Video or something too! :D
 
If there is a store nearby, or a show where you can handle the knives before buying, look at all the BM models, and then compare them to a S.W.A.T. model. IMO the SWATs are smoother than my BM 42. I have not tried the other BM models. Also, I believe the SWAT is larger. I may be wrong on that last one. The BM is a good knife, no doubt, but try to handle some alternatives if you can. Then again, if your set on a wee hawk blade shape, I think the 42 blade is your best bet.
 
I think Dragon's advice is great. If you can look at all the BM models that would be ideal. The SWAT "Tiger" Bali is very smooth, but also has a 5" blade, almost a full inch longer than that BM's.

For my taste, SWAT didn't cut enough swedge into their knife given the length of the blade, so if you love the classic Wee-Hawk design you may want to take a close look at at both the SWAT Tiger, and the BM42 before diciding.

If the exact grind of the blade isn't an issue for you right now, then you still have the Tanto (Model 47)...and the Collver Clip-Bowie (Model 43) to drool over :p ....have fun [Hunting]!!

I say go with the bm42A because its great. I just got mine like a month ago. They are about $110-$150 depends on where you buy it from. With the left over money I would STRONGLY advise that you buy some miltec-one.:D
 
Hi sifu, I just ordered a 43 for $120.00 from www.tripleaughtdesign.com He has the 42 for the same price.
Also has the Brass Swat model for $150 and the black one for $115.

if you're getting a 42, get it in black handles- I personally think it looks bad-ass with the weehawk blade.
 
thank you, thank you for all the info - unfortunatly i have no b and m store w/bali's near so handling them is out of the question, which makes the info so invaluable....have to depend on pics and info from you good people(only bali's i see are cheap POS from pakistan at the gunshow lol) - am considering buying a BM 42 outright, or i think i may have a chance to trade a spyderco military for a 42, but its hard to give up my millie, its an early one w/2 screws and thew ATS 34 steel, and LNIB - but have decided i have to have a BM 42 so we shall see-but i think i'm gonna buy one and get exactly what i want - thanks again, and best to all....

i ordered a 42BLK today from new graham for $110 - will get it wed or so - will be interesting i have never fooled w/one .....
