Spiral ;)

There was this article written in a book entitled "Secret Fighting Arts of the World" or something like that, featuring this seemingly crazy Welsh sport.

And to answer you question: HELL NO!!! They're only permitted to wear normal-weighted work boots/shoes with no re-enforcement, toecaps, etc. whatsoever. Their legs are checked for any form of protective gear as well!

Hi there Hibuke,

I Guess the auther has not met those Rugby playing, Hymn singing hard drinking Welsh coal miners then!
They do wear externaly shod boots when they play! They break legs and all sorts!

Actualy I understand people play by lots of different rules depending on whether its a duel or just a sport or game & from what village or valley they are from. I guess the book you mention is just refering to the sport!

Apparently Some even play the slow motion versian of a kick for a kick, Taken in turns, Which reqires less skill but greater toughness!

Cheers,
Spiral  ;) :D

The author was actually talking more about the more-or-less "formal" sport version of the "game"... The version he mentioned was where they either took turns kicking at full speed, or they just kicked with abandon, I can't remember!

And it's actually the Welsh that have largely brought the good name of Rugby, the game played in heaven, into much disrepute! Stupid Rugby League!:mad::mad:

Not that I hate the Welsh, just dislike what they did to the wonderful game! They have more great things that bad things...

There are some ancient formalized duelling rules from Scandinavia that are alternating strike and block contests. Most formalized duels like the holmgang were relatively bloodless, or at least death-free.

Does anyone know the bavarian "Watschentanz" (slapdance - no, not lapdance...) a strange traditional dance too, the dancers slap each other in the face four or five times during this dance. Tje sound of the "slap" has to fit the music...
Unfortunately could not find a pic in the web. But you have to imagine this dance danced by males wearing "Lederhosen" - just the way the typical American or Japanese "Oktoberfest"-tourist looks :D

I havent seen the Slapdance, But the English morris dancers are pretty unusual as well. Sometimes they dance around hitting one another over the heads with sticks in time to the music!

I wonder what made the north Europeans devlop these strange rituals?
