Just looking into knife making this week. I wonder if anyone has experience with making a blade out of 1mm thick Zirconia ceramic plates (a.k.a. Zirconium Dioxide). It is very hard maybe the regular saws won't work. What would be the right tool to shape the blade? Or, if preformed blade blanks of this material can be purchased? Or, it is not considered as a good blade material at all?

I have a set of ceramic blade kitchen knifes. They come with a diamond file for sharpening. The resharpening is not terribly hard. However it says only diamond tools can be used.

Good luck with this, everything I've ever read on ceramic knives is it's hard enough to sharpen let alone shape into a knife. I suspect it takes very specialized equipment that is probably very expensive if it's even worth doing at all. If you are going to remove any material at any rate of speed other than slow as all h#ll, it will probably have to be liquid cooled.

FWIW, Of all the people I've ever personally known that has owned or used one I've never heard a good review.
