I've seen in a few posts on this board and others that say the Benchmade AFCK is a good knife. First what does AFCK mean? Is it really a good knife and why? Which model is preferable?

A freakin' cool knife. Actually I have no idea, I've wondered this myself. Someone will probably come along that has a real answer.

It reminds me of a Spyderco (at least the models with the round hole instead of the thumb stud).

Advanced Fighting Combat Knife

Actually I think it meant Advanced Folding Combat Knife, but I seem to recall they labeled the last models Advanced Folding Camp Knife.

The later AFCK clones with thumb studs instead of Spyder holes were called TSEK, which stood for T-something (maybe Tactical) Safety Equipment Knife.

Regardless, the D2 Axis version is one of the finest Sport Utility Knives ever produced.

Thanks. Its amazing how many knowledgable people there are on this forum who are willing to share with us.

Here's an AFCK in D2 next to a Lone Wolf T2 and a Rukus:

Yep, Advanced Folding Combat Knife. not sure on the camping part but it wouldn't surprise me if they had changed it in the end.

And the Spyderco that closest resembles them IMO is the Military another sweaty of a blade

Here's a couple pics of some AFCKs

2 800s and 1 806s

And my old 800s with a NIB one I found.

I do like the D2 steel in the 806 over the ats34 in the 800 but the Axisloc in tip down carry didn't make as smooth of a draw out of pocket for me and it is tough on the pants, but it still rocks.

IIRC they changed it to a-f-CAMPING-knife to be more "PC" right before they disco'd it.

i prefer the axis AFCK myself, but nothing wrong with the locking on the std 800 either, i have never had a problem with a liner lock 800 and i have had i bet a dozen of them thru the yrs, i still have 2 or 3.

Ahh.. the Advanced Folding Camping Knife :D

Here is mine: the S30V, round-holed blade of the 806-701, mated with the G10 handle from an 805 TSEK:

Combat, not camping.

Advanced for its materials (ATS 34, titanium liners, G10) and workmaship, that were on top, as it firstly came out (manufactured on custom grade quality)

Folding, well that speaks for it self :D

Combat, ask Chris Carachi :D:D

Knife.... That thing is a knife???:eek:

But BM advertised the AFCK lately without its four letters, just as the 806D2 and with a "review" of someone, telling, it is the best camping knife.

The "Combat" was changed by Benchmade to "Camp or Camping" towards the end of the 806's production. So there. :p

You have one of the first production ones---I had one and sold it once I discovered they had changed the later production knives. My 806 has holes for both tip-up and tip-down carry.

I was used to tip down carry so I bought one of the models that was drilled and tapped on both ends.

I just don't like the design at all. The hole in the knife blade is too big and the serrations IMHO are a waste of the blade. Steven, I do like the looks of your knife a little better (except for that damn big hole). DRider - I love that Lone Wolf T2!

not correct, BM did call it a advanced folding camping knife right before they disco'd it, i am speaking of the 800 not the 806. and this is yrs ago, i doubt BM advertises the 800 anymore as its disco'd and has been for about 5 yrs lol.

i used to talk to cris caracci all the time back when he had a forum here FWIW. he preffered the std 800 liner lock to the 806 for SD as he was worried about the axis button being accidently hit and dis-engaging the lock, his solution was to grind the buttons down.

now imho it was a great combat knife.

i always liked the AFCK vs the TSEK, to me it didnt look right without the holes lol,
