I know a lot of cheap metal tools you buy have chemicals on them and in them that are dangerous. My question is if i buy a really cheap knife from China...lets just assume they put these chemicals on/in the tool...would i receieve any harm from sharpening the blade??? Sorry maybe a stupid question but i prefer not to receive any injuries from any chemicals.

The only substance I have seen on my Chinese knives ( and I have a crapload of them) are liberal amounts of oil slathered on the blade and the handles.

The biggest danger would be that someone could see you with the cheap Chinese knife...

I can't imagine any chemicals in the blade, as far as on the blade, if you're concerned, just wash it.

I would not worry too much about chemicals on a knife from China...toothpaste, yes, but not knives. The biggest issue with Chinese knives is that they are usually poor quality and you never know for certain what kind of steel you are getting. Some have locks that can easily fail and hurt you badly. There are some that seem to be of better quality, but the price also is higher, as high as an American made knife of known components and quality.

Avoid licking the blade. Not that they are sharp, mind you.

If the knife glows in the dark, that's right out.
