Newbie questions for LA, CA carry

The site for the City of LA Municipal Code is http://www.codesite.com/LAMC/MTOC.HTM

I believe that the knife laws are in Chapter V entitled Public Safety and Protection. They may be under Section 5, entitled Firearms and Dangerous Weapons. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the text on my computer (my ineptness with it, no doubt) so I was unable to confirm that Section 5 is the correct location. If someone else can get the text up, they should be able to check pretty easily. Perhaps they could then post it.

The Los Angeles County Code can be found at http://ordlink.com/codes/lacounty/

See Title 13, Public Peace, Morals, and Welfare. Then go to Division 2, Offenses Against the Person. Next see Chapter 1362.020, Carrying Knives in Plain View. This text I was able to view. It says that "It is unlawful for any person to carry on his person, in plain view, any knife or dagger." Another section states "...the terms 'knives and daggers' shall include any knife having a blade of three inches or more in length;...etc."

SEC. 55.10. CARRY KNIVES OR DAGGERS IN PLAIN VIEW
PROHIBITED.
(Added by Ord. No. 162,995, Eff. 1/7/88.)
(a) As used in this section, the term “knife” or “dagger” shall include any
knife, dirk or dagger having a blade 3 inches or more in length, any ice pick
or similar sharp tool, any straight edge razor or any razor blade fitted to a
handle.
(b) No person shall wear or carry in plain view any knife or dagger upon
any public street or other public place or in any place open to the public.
(c) The prohibitions of this section shall not apply where a person is
wearing or carrying a knife or dagger for use in a lawful occupation, for
lawful recreational purposes, or as a recognized religious practice, or while
the person is traveling to or returning from participation in such activity.

With the pocket clip showing is still considered concealed. It is based upon the "average" person. If a non knife person were to see the clip, chances are that they would not be able to ID it as a knife.

A similar "logic" is applied to fixed blades. If any part of the knifes handle or sheath is covered it is considered concealed. I always make sure that my EDC is in full view and not blocked by the flannel I almost always wear.
