Hi, I am new to the forum and could use advice. I would like to learn about knives (and multitools) with the intent of enjoying them and creating side business selling new and used product. Do you have any recommendations on \resources and where I should look for them to learn what i need about knives, prices and everything else? Which forum would be best to pose these types of questions? I would like to ask what the best resources for used knives.

any specific suggestions on what materials (books and websites would be a good start) and where sellers buy used knives?

You know nothing about knives but want to start a business selling them? Maybe I misunderstood the OP. I think this is the best all around knife forum out there.

Well, there is the internet, your local library, patent and trademark office... Not to be glib, but there isn't a one-stop shop for that sort of info. And While a this mob can be a very helpful bunch, patience runs thin if someone starts treating the place as their own personal research desk. Apart from Bernard Levine's books, any books on knife making, knife history, and even old catalogs will be the sorts of things you will want to be looking for. As to selling used knives, most used knife sellers are buying them in bulk from TSA auctions, and its a pretty cornered market. Read lots, enjoy learning, but don't plan on making money out of it, you'll see that very few manage it, and fewer manage it without generating ill-will.

Thanks. The advice is appreciated. I am interested in learning something new - a hobby of sorts that I can use the experience & knowledge perhaps to sell knives and related items at gun and knife shows and on the web. I am NOT expecting to create a huge business but would like something to keep me busy and that can be fun & enjoyable.

Your post is confusing in that you would like Blade Forum enthusiasts to give you information about knives so you can decide if this hobby is something you may enjoy and possibly turn it into a business. Most folks here have a passion for sharp and pointy things and have dialogue, sometimes heated at that but not to win someone over to the sharp side. Fairly easy to do your own research on the internet, by the way do you own a knife.

If you were to read some of the threads here at Blade Forums as to when the knife bug imbedded itself into our lives it would make for interesting reading, most of us started at an early age never with the intent to make money selling but rather collecting. The selling part comes later for some never for others. To ask what Forum is best to pose these questions would be like going into a Chevy dealership and ask what company makes the best car. Of course Blade Forum is the best place to learn and share information wth stories pictures because this is the Forum we are on.

Welcome to the forum. Just keep browsing Bladeforums and the knowledge will come naturally. Slowly maybe but you'll learn stuff everyday. You'll have fun with it too.

There's a sub forum for just about anything you could think of that's knife related. I've always considered Bladeforums to be just as enjoyable as the knives themselves. Stick around and enjoy. You're in for a treat.

After re-reading my initial post I can see that it wasn't written well enough to capture & communicate effectively my thoughts and interests. My apologies to everyone. I certainly didn't intend to offend anyone by my naiveté and with my lack of past experience on the subject matter. I am home after a surgery and the results of the medication and lack of sleep impaired my communication. I look forward to reading and learning from all of you on the forum.
