I'm 100% new to all this and had a few questions.

I've been looking at jumping feet first into this as I think it would be fun and may make a dollar. Doesn't seem like much with time envolved until you get great but either way. I like to tinker, fab, build, and engineer stuff so why not try.

Which grinder? I don't have $2500 to spend off the bat, but been looking at the Pheer 427 and 454. For the chips they seem like the best deal as well as variable speed etc.

What say you? I think I have quite a bit of the other large tools, but I'm not going big time just wanting to hobby grind and see where it goes.

Thanks

I'm kind of a buy once cry once kind of guy at least within reason.

I don't think I'd enjoy it if I had to fight with equipment much.

I have had my pheer 454 2hp VFD for over a year and it's been amazing. I'd highly recommend a small wheel attachment from him, and the 6" drive wheel.

When I was looking for a grinder I was fortunate to learn about Esteem Grinders and Brett Mathews. I had a chance to meet Brett when I picked up my grinder almost a year ago. Since then I have talked with him when I have had questions.

He is a great guy that manufactures a quality product. I really like the articulating tool rest. He has packages that start about where the Pheer's are. Check out his website and give him a call if you have any questions.

Which one did you get? Looking it says 3 phase motor but runs on single phase vfg. Do you have to have 3 phase elector city or what? I've looked and read about these too. Forgot to mention them!

I have a 2 HP with the KBAC VFD. The VFD plugs into regular single phase 220 and powers the 3ph motor. If you have single phase 220 available you are good to go.

I have one Brett's grinders and it's a really well made piece of equipment. Excellent support too.

Craftsman 2x42 is like $150 and you can get excellent belts from trugrit.com

That's what I and many did to begin with to get our feet wet and see if we would stick with the hobby.

The motor is weak and it runs super fast but it worked well for me to learn on. IMO.
