I thought many of you would get a kick out of these. Although many know of the Lovett-Loveless Connection Sub Hilts, many don't know that I have been making them for many years. So I thought I would post the very first one I ever made. (Sub-Hilt) Not first Knife. This one is apx. 17-20 years old, give or take a year or two. It was made for L. Chow around 89 or 90. Next is an older short guard Jr Bear, made before the Loveless Connection. These older knives are recognizable by the work maker not appearing in the logo. Please feel free to give opinions. You will notice that they are closer to the old Lawndale Loveless style than todays Sub-Hilts.Mike and Manuela

And the Obverse of the Jr Bear! Many have speculated that I am new to the business. I just never sought any public recognition. Ad's, Print, or far away shows, But I've been at this a long time. Lovett's are very, very hard to find. Especially older ones. But there many out there. I was very happy to receive these pic's. As I never took pic's of my work over the years. Thanks so much for looking! Mike and Manuela

I am a fan of subhilts and those are some nice knives! Would be happy to own them.

The Big Bear is one of my all time favorite designs. The ones you did here are both exceptionally nice. I prefer the balanced look of the one with the shorter blade.

Hello Mike,

I really like the blades - very nice. The handles look good, too, but seem to lack some of the refinement in the butt area that your newer knives have - a little squared / hard-edged instead of a that smooth rounding.

As to the guards, I like the one on the Jr. bear better as the small, basic one doesn't seem to fit so well to the sub-hilt design. Not too fond of the nickel silver, but that seems to be a recurring theme in the custom forum lately :p .

Overall great start which lead to fabulous knives later on (I have had the pleasure to 'fondle' :D a few of Louis Chow's Lovett blades).

Can't wait to get my sub-hilts. Almost a year down and hopefully not much more than a year to go :) .

Thanks for posting these,
Thor

Thanks everyone! I think I like the Short Guards the Best. Thor, I agree with you completely!!! Mike

I TRULY! love those sub-hilts. I'm going to try my hand at one of those in the future.
I had to check on that "Obverse" thing though!

Obverse
The front side of a knife, with the point of the knife to the left and the edge down, you are looking at the obverse (front) side of a knife.

The Obverse is the side with the signature, the reverse is the other.

Nice Subhilts Mike,I like the shorter guards. What are blade lengths on them? Keep up the Great work

Truely awesome knives Mike. I spotted a fighter you made at the Vegas show last weekend and by the time I got back to the table it was gone. :( Sub hilts are my favorite.

Mike, I keep going back to these, they're so nice! Even though I'm always after Stag, I really like the BB in Mammoth!

And to think, you've only gotten better.

Win

Thanks Don, At least the look back didn't scare me. I've had a few come back to haunt me over the years. Makes me wonder what I was thinking at the time! Mike and Manuela
