newbie to spydies - sage and manix question

The Spyderco and B/M that were "tested" sure cut into that 2x2 a lot deeper and easier than those other brands did. That to me is what a folder is for, to cut not be used as a replacement for a fixed blade or hatchet.

There are plenty of folks who will react negatively to a one handed opening knife of any kind. The blade shape and even more, the size (smaller is better) will probably help some, but in my experience, not much. In these situations, a two handed opener (e.g. traditional slip joint or SAK) is much less threatening, by far.

I think the Sage has terrific ergos, by the way, and I have heard nothing but raves for its strength, fit and finish. I'm really looking forward to the Sage III.

I've had a chance to handle a Tenacious. Great knife for the money, that's why I'm looking at the higher end models now. While I was working one guy had it as a back up and since I was helping him out he let me use it. That's actually what got me on the Manix since it's seems a tad bigger, better steel and the ergos of a Native that I actually like more (had the privilege of holding one in a shop).

And I've heard nothing bad about the Sage, but I have heard about liner locks in general, so that's why I'm asking that.

Actually the tenacious' blade is as long as the manix 2 at 86mm. Sometimes the manix 2 just looks bigger in photos. The manix 2 is also much more robust than the tenacious, IMHO.

Styx, if Spyderco signs off on a production design, you can be very confident that it has been well tested and engineered to the nuts. I own a lot of production knives from most of the big names and my knives that consistently perform as advertised are from Spyderco. Any Spyderco designed liner lock that I have seen, has a 'radius'd' tang for extra security and even wear. This also applies to the Byrd models.

If there is Spyderco on the box or blade, buy with confidence.

OK they really aren't that comparable, and i see how the Manix can come off as intimidating

Just don't go waving it around while screaming at people in a public setting and you should be fine. Remember 50% of the "intimidating" aspect is how you conduct yourself. The other 50% is more than likely people that have built up stereotypes based on movies.

But they are not sheeple friendly.

I've never seen a sheeple; but Spyderco's can definitely be friendly looking to non-knife persons. The colored handles and Spyderhole can go a long way to avoiding a negative comment or creating an uneasy situation with someone who isn't familiar with things.

Apparently my Atlantic Salt is quite cute because it looks like a duck when it's folded. But then again, I don't generally interact in worlds where knives are frowned upon.

Go with the Manix2, my main EDC rotation includes the Manix2 and a Strider SnG. I can honestly say that the Manix2 holds it's own as a hard use folder. There's no validity in those knife abuser tests.

Also I have never had any problem with sheeple while carrying it. I actually get positive comments when people see it. They find the Golden, CO USA EARTH inscription amusing.

That eases my mind quite a bit. As I said they impressed me already.

Oh how I hate those stereotypes. Fortunately enough I don't do things like that, but that stereotype thing really don't help out.

OK that pretty much sums it up. I think I know what to add on my to get list.

the sage 2 is just an amazing Spyderco.
Hold it in your hands if you got the opportunity and you will see why.
Compact, light, rock solid, ergonomic, beautiful... And high performances !
This is one of the rare perfect edc I had ever the chance to own and use.
A sure value.
Mine fell on the tip, been used all week end on cardboard (moving a friend).
Been reprofiling the tip, convexed the edge...
Look like new.

The manix if is bigger but the lock is fun to play with.
That could scare sheeples...

The sages are very reasonnable in size.
I love mines on every day bases when I don't carry bigger folders...

I had issues with importing my Sage 2 and Gayle Bradley which a few people might of noticed.

But I've been fighting for about 2 weeks and I've finally won.

They arrived yesterday, and I think the Sage 2 is just an amazing knife.
Feels great in the hand, it's nice and light, feels really solid, it's now my EDC knife.

The liner lock I find is probably a little harder to close than my old Native, but not by much. I work in IT, so I probably have nice soft women hands ;)

Hey bonzabeautymate !
I'm glad you were able to beat the administration.
And congratulations for your two news knives ! They will be great companions !
cheers
Nemo
