Newbie to traditional

Before you know it you'll be buying one of these folksy looking wood chests to put them in. :D

Here's a link to where I purchased mine. Surprisingly good quality considering the price and source. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94554

Hold on to your wallet! This started out as a handful of mainly Spydercos, a couple of Benchmades and Kershaws.

Welcome to traditionals.

You guys are great with good replies. I guess I'll start simple and get a Case stockman. I will post results as they come. Thanks again fro all the advice

Do they make a traditional knife with a lock blade along with a standard slip blade if that makes sense?

That is my dream, a 2 bladed knife with one lockback blade and one slip joint blade...

I have found a couple after lots of searching, and stumbled upon these from Gerber, the only ones so far that look like a traditional...

They are 2 small slipjoint blades, and 1 locking main blade.

My initial thoughts and review article is here; :)

I have been told these are an import-if that matters to you- but they are not marked China/taiwan/etc... So I do not know for sure. I have also heard reports of poor build from Gerber of late, but the one I received was built rather nice.

I think it's great that your comin over the fence to the good side...
The Case Stockman is a great place to start. Don't get to worried about finding the "best" for your first one. After ya get the first one and start looking around, you will develop your own idea of what is best for you..

Another thing to consider is the older Case knives. The quality is usually top notch and the older ones had some of the most beautiful red bone as well as green bone.. Some of them bring a premium price so you will be closer to the 100 + dollar range for some models, but others can be had for less.
Welcome to the addiction :D

I'm with you. I am getting a bit tired of tactical knives and I feel traditionals have more soul to them. I've had a Case CV amber bone medium stockman for a while now. It is a great EDC blade. Try out a carbon steel blade you will love it I'm sure!

+1 here!:)

Next on your list could be a Great Eastern Cutlery No.73 Liner lock in bone handles, many under a 100USD about 3.75" closed.

Just beware of the effects it can have on you! It can sneak up on ya the Slippie thing!!!:D

Baba can you tell me what the first knife on the left side is? Maybe another pic of the spine? I'm looking to get my first traditional slippie and have been looking around but I can't find anything that i really like so far(aside from some Bose customs that I can't afford). I want something with a thick spine and heavy. Thanks!

assuming you mean the first one on the left that is on its spine and not laying down as far as i can tell that is an Amherst Cutlery Trapper. And if so then i am sorry to break it to you but it is a custom too that runs a bit more then your 100 limit. If i am wrong...well i shall just look like an uneducated heathen in from of all the traditional experts here. oh well :)

Thanks for the reply, i figured it looked like a custom. I have no $100 limit.:)

Browning makes a knife with both a lockback main blade and a slipjoint secondary, unless they are having them made differently these days. It is called the "Fish and Bird" knife, has brass bolsters and stag scales. I searched around on the 'net for a few minutes, and Cabelas shows them for $90. Ya'll might take a peep there and see what it looks like. Might could find them elsewhere too.
