newbie with Spartan

I'm new at this knife thing so bare with me. Recently a friend of mine gave me a Cold Steel Spartan. I sent it in to Cold Steel to have it refurbished, which they did, for free! What customer service. Anyway, I'm not a very big guy at 5' 10" 150lbs, the Spartan is a little too big for an EDC. Besides, the blade length makes it illegal for me to carry in my city. Arkansas State law has no length or style restrictions on fixed or folders however, in this case city law trumps state law and in the city where I live the law says no longer than a 3.5 inch blade on a folder. So, I need-want to trade for a legal EDC. I want to stay with CS. What makes for a good EDC?
 
I'm a bit rusty on my CS but I'd say look at the Code-4, those models (if I remember correctly) are designed for more edc use
