New to the site and appreciate all knife knowledge. I have 100 plus knives and in my mind at the low end...USA made Buck is my choice...I would appreciate any insight to choices to better my collection... I've just bought the Buck Vantage Force Avid with Sandvik and love the feel of my vantage force pro and look forward to receiving said avid....does anyone out there have knowledge of anything better?

For buck folders, it doesn't get better than the open season folder, s30v with bos ht logo; usually about $65. for toughness/thickness there's the tops/buck csar, which is plain old 154cm (bos) the thickest buck blade I've ever seen with nice tops designed g-10 handles. These are $90-115. Just don't ever get a spyderco, or you will soon be homeless.

Lol man oh man.. :)

Welcome to the forums! Stick around a while, check the exchange if you dare. If "higher end" is what you want, you're sure to find it over there as well as over on the custom makers for sale forum. Good luck. :D:p:rolleyes:

- What do you do with your knives?
- What do you have to sharpen them?
- What is the worst conditions the knife will regularly see?
- What size gloves do you wear?
- What is your price range?
- Are you comfortable with carbon steels?

You've gotten quite a collection, and you have stated they are at the "low end." For many folks, there is no need to purchase knives at higher prices. Here, however, you will find many guys/girls with knives that cost a ton and defend their choice. It's all personal opinion in the end; what pleases one person will not comfort the next.
You can learn a lot here. We have many folks with lots of experience/knowledge that are willing to share.
We welcome you here, and we can learn from your experiences also.
don

Take a look at kershaw, zero tolerance, spyderco, benchmade and cold steel.

Welcome to BFC FredP !!!!!!!
Why would you want to find something better when you've got a perfectly good collection?
Reminds me of the song by Mickey Gilley "I Overlooked an Orchid"........go look it up on uTube and you'll understand.

There are lots of higher end folding knives than stuff made by Buck. But the Buck knives are enough for most people when you're practical. Take a look at Spyderco, ZT (Zero Tolerance), Benchmade folding knives for modern knives. I personally have been very pleased with the Spydero knives that I have purchased. Of late, I have been slowly migrating toward traditional folding knives and the best factory ones are made by Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC). They're a little more expensive than Case or Queen, but not outrageous in price.

Nope that is the best knife you will ever need. Take your money and go home.
I have a couple of cold steel, zero tolerance and a bunch of spyderco and kershaws....benchmade barrage and griptillian but and while I like the assist I love the ease of flipping the buck, thin and comfortable. I've read many post and look forward to viewing and adding to post. Thanks to all

I really like the Benchmade Mini Barrage personally. I like assisted openers, but not so much flippers.

Welcome to the forum, Fred.

With a 100 knives or more,
already in your possession,
You're clearly on a true knifenut's path
To self discovery.
So, to get Someone else's idea of Better
At this point, would be a cowardly betrayal,
In the formation and growth of your own personal thoughts on
The finer points of knife appreciation.
A decorated knifenut has to "pay" his dues ;-)
All said, It's just proper to do your preshopping homework
On what it is exactly you like in a knife.
And then get busy researching the general
opinions of folks who do own the said
Knife of interest.
I have a strange feeling that you really do enjoy
The thrill of a buy and perhaps
Have developed a very keen passion
for accumulating Your wants.
Nothing wrong with a healthy appetite
It's just too bad that like the best of us,
All have still but two hands only to put
The collection ever growing to good use.
Welcome to the forums!
Stick around, you'll fit in here just fine,

If you really like Buck knives, the Marksman is one of my favorite knives, but it's not for everyone. The lock takes some muscle memory and some just don't like it. But it's a great flipper and just swings shut. I have the S35VN/Green G10 version. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the name as he's not an approved dealer but is active on the buck subforum. But you can find it by just googling "Marksman S35VN Green G10"
