After reading all the posts on here and having our brother mikepapa1 tell me how great the Umnumzaan was I figured it would be my next purchase. In fact I had second thoughts after ordering the Star-Benza and was going to change it to the Star-Tac but Wilson had already shipped my order when I called to verify that the Star-Benza was in stock.
The wait or this one isn't as exciting as what the Star-Benza was, see http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ew-Star-Benza-Arrived?p=13068871#post13068871 if you haven't already read the details.
I decided to go with the Star-Tac Umnumzaan for two reasons, one I'm a big Wilson 1911 fan and two, I like the starburst pattern they put on the grip and how it makes it feel more grippy in your hand as well as how the pattern runs onto the lock bar.
I ordered the knife online late in the day Friday so it didn't ship until Monday. This one arrived sooner than the last one that got caught in the snow storm (see referenced post above). According to UPS tracking information I knew it would be here today which is normally around 4:30 or 5:00 so I had to run into town to pick up some horse feed and run a few errands. While in town around 10:00 I passed my UPS guy and we both waved as we passed. I thought, perfect timing and turned around in the middle of the road to meet him. By the time I pulled up beside his truck he already had my package in hand and was scanning it! I think he knows me too well.
When I got home I had to open the package in the garage, see following pictures...
Is it too soon to say I think my new Star-Tac is my favorite Chris Reeve so far? My first purchase was the 25 and I liked it real well but wanted to get a 21 just to feel the smoothness of the pivot everyone talks about. To tell the truth I was more impressed with smoothness of my 25 than the Star-Benza 21 but then again to be fair, the 21 isn't broke in as well as the 25. Well when I opened the Umnum, it was unbelievably smooth and easy on the thumb! The blade shape is fantastic as well as the feel in the hand. I do like the jimping on the 25 better than the Umnum but it's acceptable the way it is. Out of the box the blade is sharper than the 25 but not as sharp as the 21 but by no means a slouch. I'm really looking forward to carrying this one and it will most likely be my EDC. Thanks for all that contribute to this forum so people like me can learn from you, if it hadn't been for all of you Umnumzaan supporters I probably wouldn't have tried one.
BTW Zaan Man, it's B13.
This is my last CRK purchase for a while, unless I come across one of them large regulars or maybe an original Umnumzaan, or a ...

Here is my vast collection.
