I really like the looks of this new offering..after I get a few customs paid for ,I am going to order one....now gotta decide S30v or D2 ?

Of those two steels I'd go S30V. It is easier to sharpen as well as taking and holding a very crisp edge, especialy for stainless steel. I have seen too many blade failures in D2 to feel comfortable trusting it at all. The deciding factor will be how good KOA is at the heat treating of these blades since that is the factor which makes or breaks either of these steels.

Knife looks great, but what I really like is the modular sheath. Factory sheaths usually leave a lot to be desired, but that one looks perfect.

I love the S30v but I have a few KOA D2 blades and I really like the way KOA do there D2. only about $5 difference in price between the S30v & D2,I might buy both...LOL if my cash flow is cooperating :D the Alpha wolf is D2 and one of my Favorite knives but needs rehandled, the rubber grip is to thin for my taste but an excellent razor sharp piece of D2 that throws sparks like crazy from a firesteel and comes with a quality leather sheath.

Darn you, now I will have to check into those:D IMO KOA are very underestimated. They are great quality knives and I can say for sure that their customer service is absolutely amazing. KOA D2 is unbeatable and although I am not a scientist, I know they use their own special process for doing the D2 steel. Again IMO there is no better quality knives at any price than KOA.

Is this one available now? If so where? I have the 10 inch D2 Camp/Trail knife. Indestructible.

udtjim, I'd sure like to see a review of the trail knife. I have looked at that thing long and hard for a long time!

That's a cool looking blade. I might have to get one.

I agree, KOA D2 is pretty good stuff. I picked up a D2 Cub Bear when I was in Anchorage not knowing anything about the KOA knives (just wandered into their shop) and was blown away by its performance.

Nice! I really like the sheath on that one and the blade looks pretty useful. I also like the guards - usually I would rather not have a guard but some designs call for one. Those look like they will stay out of the way nicely.

But I am tired of seeing survival knives in S30V and D2. I can sharpen those steels well at home but in the field is more difficult. There are tougher and easier to sharpen choices out there (cheaper choices too).

True Matt but if you have a sharpen object on you ,touch it up as you go works great, the little sharpening steel KOA offers works great...I gotta get on of KOA hatchets...

After looking this over, I think I just added something to my list of items to get.

Thanks a lot :D
