Newest Hunting Knife

Depends what and where I'm hunting. I carry a CPK EDC2 along with a White River M1 Backpacker and a Knives of Alaska Caper for Whitetail and smaller game. I have a couple others I carry in my pack as backups an Esee JG3 and another caper among them.
Pic from touching up a few last year.

I picked up a couple knives from makers here on the forums this year that will get some carry time this coming season also.

Nice set-ups. What do you hunt with the 410? Was always a great squirrel and rabbit gun for me when I was a kid.

I'm still using my 4 yr old ruike jager in 14c28n steel - wonderful all around for every fixed blade scenario I could throw at it

And I'm still using a 40+ year-old Buck 112...
I figure that by now: it knows it's way around inside a deer or bear pretty well!
After looking the O.P.'s new knife over a bit: those holes in the blade will catch of lot of innards, and make a real mess...
Is it tough enough to split a pelvis?

A cute knife: not for my pocket!

C'mon dude - don't poopoo the guys blade for no good reason. Holes in the blade are gonna be messy but you're using a folder with plenty of places for blood and innards to hang around after.

Back to the topic, I've been using a Buck Packite Skinner for a while now. It does the job, but my hunting knife is one where I am looking for something to upgrade, just haven't found the one that speaks to me yet.

You might be right that it won’t be that useful. I’ve only got three dear so far and I’m teaching myself as I go. The first deer I field dressed with a cheap retractable razor knife, then I went home and googled how to skin it. My main hunting knife is this UP Bravo but I want to skin the deer first and then quarter and de-bone everything quick. I don’t split the pelvis but go through the back-side carefully. I’m not sure I’ll even do that now. Just skin, quarter, back straps, and only gut enough to get the straps on the inside…. Any advice is appreciated.

If it doesn’t work for hunting I’ll keep it in my purse 🙂
The Buck you are using is a similar concept to the one I just bought, they actually sell them wrapped in para cord for less weight. Do you have any ideas for your next one?

I just bought this Schrade folding hunter and I'll probably carry this on my deer hunt.
I only field dress and then go right to the butcher.

I'm older now so I don't have the stamina I once had. :)

That is a great looking blade. There is a difference between field dressing and packing everything out. I’m still in my thirties (barely) and the one deer I got in the zone i’m going really made me think about time, and the weight of my gear. I was pathetic hiking out. But I had just spent a year running an off-road forklift, so just sitting. Now im in better shape because I’ve been doing maintenance on rock and asphalt plants. Where do you hunt and what is it like?

I dont have any ideas yet. I like the weight and size of the Buck and the ergonomics work for me.
it does require touch up on the edge after each deer so I'd like to upgrade steel.

I use it for field dressing and skinning and quartering once I'm back at the house/camp. no bone work, I have tools for that. and then processing of meat has a dedicated set of knives.
I'm fairly content with what I have now, just waiting for something that jumps out at me

Just my opinion: backed by 55 years of hunting and killing stuff...

I gave up processing deer years ago :) Now I just drag it out , drop it off and tell the butcher what cuts I want.

I hunt it Dutchess County NY , on 500 acres of club property... I'm a member.
We have a rifle range too.

It beats public property, usually only 15 or 20 hunters out at one time. Compared to dozens on state land.

It's typical upstate NY terrain , hilly , lots of cover , close shots. A deer can pass 50 yards in front of you and you would never see it.
I usually post in heavy cover and try to overlook spots with a little clearing.
But unfortunately only slug guns, no rifles. If I travel a little further north or west , then rifles are ok.

The deer population in my county took a big hit last summer with a fly borne virus, I didn't even hunt last year.

That sounds like a good situation there, definitely a different kind of hunting compared to out west. I might be able to hunt some land in Vermont some day, it might be similar.

I'm trying to find a hunting knife. We intend to go hunting while on vacation. Therefore, we require a decent, sharp axe and knife. Please let me know where I can purchase it.
I really love my Fiskars 14" hatchet. We used to heat our home with wood when I was a kid so I split a lot of wood. The best hatchet I've ever used is my Fiskars that I've had for the last several years. Their super tough, pretty light for packing to go camping, and they cut deep with each swing. The 14" works best for me for my camping needs, you might like a different size, I don't know.

First: what will you be hunting, and where will you be hunting?

Here are most of my hunting knives. I have another Gerber lst and fixed blade, an Essee 3 and a buck folder. 4 of them are from BF knife makers. Oneil. Childress and Black Oak bladeworks. 1 of those 4 will go to my hunting partner( I'll make him choose) the rest I'll keep. I live in Washington but now hunt in the Idaho panhandle. FAR, FAR. Les people to deal with!
