Looks great, I have some klean strip, but wondering about using it in the cold temps here.

when i started the stripping, it was about 430, maybe 60-65 degrees. it went well. idk about the temps in IL though

I am new to knife stripping so sorry if this is a dumb question but once you strip how do you stop the knife from rusting

Vegetable oil works well... Any oil will do but if you're planning on using it for food prep using an edible oil makes a big difference.

Unless you're the tin man.

Update.

ive been sanding still to get the grind marks out, but i decided to take a break from that to work on my handle gasket idea. my awesome girlfriend got me some micarta for my birthday. so thats great! I was wondering about how id be able to protect under the handles without having to remove them all the time to clean and dry the steel, so i thought maybe cut out some bulk gasket and throw it under those guys and see if itll keep out water and so on. so i did, i got a roll of gasket material from autozone. i decided to try the gasket labeled for water oil and fuel, part no. 3157 i believe for those interested. i cut out rough shapes and bolted them under the handles, and shaved off the excess, with, my ka-bar mule of course. perfect shape. coincidentally i found that taking a standard no. 2 pencils eraser out, and putting it in the lanyard hole on the handles, made for the exact size punch i needed to get that circle of gasket out. here are some pics, enjoy.

and all the pen marks on my desk? my 2 year old girl likes to hide pens to "color" with on everything. i think ive found them all now haha.

doesnt really make the grip too much bigger, can i sand micarta down? if i wanted?

looks good! I like the gasket idea. I usually just a 5-star plastic folder from walmart.

thanks. this sanding though, is way more of a project than i thought. i think i need some more grits, re-started at 60 for the grind marks, and 150 is taking too long to take the 60 out, and i tested some 220 on the 150, and thats too much difference too. back to the store for more sand paper, if i never have to touch the stuff in my life after this, ill be a happy man

UPDATE. the sanding has defeted me i think. im busy, work full time, have a family, im going no where with this. so is there any power tool way to do this? or any kind of shop that could get me a smooth finish all around?
