It looks like another shipment of khukuris may have disappeared. It is long overdue. The first was "supposedly" shipped on May 14 and it is not here and it looks like it never will be. In the second shipment that we think is "lost" was ghost's two special orders -- Hanuman and 20 inch Sirupati along with a couple of other special orders and a couple of chandan handled khukuris.
Kami has been doing some investigation regarding these lost shipments and it may well be these khukuris never left Nepal. Kami is almost certain these shipments never even left the Post Office but were carried out the back door and sold on the streets.
Chandan handled khukuris are prized in Nepal and elsewhere, too.
Insiders at the PO alerted Kami to this and he has switched to UPS express air for shipping. He told me if he could find the thief he would "chop his hand off."
Surprising? Not really, not for third world countries. That's the way of life. Years ago I was in the US and Yangdu was in Nepal. I needed to get some money to her so I sent three checks each in a different envelope. One made it to her, two were stolen, her name forged, and cashed. Of course, I got the money back since the checks had forged signatures but it did not help Yangdu when she needed money. That's why I sent three instead of only one. I'd lived in Nepal and understood the system.
We will have to start over on the lost orders. It makes me angry but then I try to remember that civil servants in Nepal get paid so little they are almost forced to steal if they are to eat and this helps in the forgiveness.
