One thing I have found helpful at times is visualization. I think it helps to mobilize the body's resources. I could be wrong. Anyway, one way to do it is, at a quiet time, imagine sending a tiny construction crew, complete with jackhammers, shovels, rasps, whatever tools are appropriate, to the affected area of the body. Spend a little time imagining them working on the problem. This is good before dropping off to sleep.
If you're familiar with the oriental ideas of moving chi around the body you can use that method as well. I think the tiny construction crews do the same thing and are easier to understand for a lot of us.
