I'am still in shock but I finally did it.Some of you may think I'am being silly but let me tell you its quite an accomplishment for me.I finally was able to sharpen my knives,14 years of trying later.I was so bad at sharpening knives all I had to do was look at the edge and they would dull.I've tried all types of regular type sharpening stones and even a set of ceramic crock sticks one time.I've never, ever was ever able to put an edge on a knife or keep the correct angle, until now! Thanks to my friend Neil (aka) Jailhack) he told me about the Spyderco 204 when I was thinking about the Lansky system. He said that I would be better of with the Spyderco 204.I thought what do I have to lose,I told him go ahead and order one for me.I got it and almost two weeks later I got up the courage to try it.I popped in the Spydie video sat down with my sharpener and my dullest knife.I watched and followed along, and about 15 minutes later I was holding my shrade in my hand shaving hair off my arm! Thank you Neil and Thank you so much Spyderco. If I can sharpen a knife then anybody can, using the Spyderco 204 that is.Thanks for listening,Ralph

Congratulations!!!! I am glad you have found one that works for you! The sharpmaker 204 is great, isn't it?

Thanks guy's.Go for it RenField, believe me you won't be sorry. It seems I've run out of hair on my arms.Chow fellow knife nuts,Ralph

Is the Sharpmaker really that easy to use? I have been trying to decide which sharpener to buy and have heard very good things about the sharpmaker. It sounds like this one may be for me, also.

The Sharpmaker 204 is easy to use and works well in my experience. It seems there is a not only a science to sharpening but an art as well as I've had some knives that I just never could seem to get a really good edge on. I still use bench stones from time to time and have used the Lansky system with good results but it is more cumbersome to use than the Sharpmaker.

Way to go Ralph!

The 204 (or 203) Sharpmaker can make you the resident "sharpening guru" just about anywhere in no time flat. Buy the sharpener, read the instructions and/or watch the video, read Joe Talmadge's sharpening FAQ, master the use of the flat coarse diamond bench stone in conjunction with the Sharpmaker (per Joe) and presto - no dull knife will be your equal!

Kudos to Sal for a fabulous product

Told you it was easy as pie!! Have fun.

And for the newbies around here, I don't put my seal of approval on too many things, but I have no problem putting the seal on the 204(Now if we could just get Sal to re-introduce those Diamond sleeves

eaisaacs, the 203/204 sharpener is easy to use, but like many easy things, it sometimes requires a compromise.

The angles on the 203/204 are fixed at 15/20 degrees, which makes angle decisions fairly simple.

But if your knife's existing angle is a lot wider (say 25 degrees), you may end up spending a lot of time on the initial use of the 204, just to grind the edge angle to match that of the sharpener (especially if your knife has a really hard RC steel).

Thereafter, it gets easy.
