Gregg, you are right of course. I do live to close to the big city.
The only problem I had in Oregon was when the big city came there. The people next door had taken in a young man and was helpig him out, get on his feet, etc.
He repaid that kindness by leaveing in the middle of the night and stole a case of beer off my front porch.
That wasn't nothing to what he did to the people who were helping him though.
He stole some $350.00 or so from the older girls purse. He was never seen again in those parts as far as I know. After that incidence we all put locks on our doors and used them.
I can remember the days when we never locked doors of any kind.
Things were frendlier in those days and I miss them.
Robert Heinlein wrote many stories about the societies of the future and having to drive around in armored machines to be safe as well as elaborate security devices for homes. At least the people still had the means of defending themselves whether legal or not.
Those days are now here in some areas as we all know.
It's like the piece I had in my sig once, "The naked savage sleeps in an open hut in the jungle, while the civilized man sleeps behind locked doors in the city."
Compulsory knife content...
Everyone needs a khukuri to protect their homes and families and to bring back the days of not having to worry about the immoral few.
Arm everyone and vigilantes reunite!! (vbeg)
