Can anyone please tell me what is going on with Newt Livesay?

It's been 2 months since I paid for a knife he supposedly had in stock, and no joy. It seems every time I email this guy, a new tragedy has befallen him.

So, I was wondering if anyone had any other experiences with this maker?

I hope this is the right place for this, but with no search function available...

Thanks,

Steve

Questions about how good, how bad, or how ugly someone you've dealt with is, belong in FEEDBACK: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly! so I have moved this there from Custom and Handmade Knives.

This crap makes me sick to my stomach.

I met Newt right before Y2K at a convention, and he was friendly and personable. What a good guy to do busines with, and I bought a woo neck knife- which is a very nice piece of kit.

But this smoke and mirrors act has got me sour. I emailed him about all this a couple of days ago, and I'm getting no response. I guess I just write off the cash as a loss and go on. Maybe I'll be lucky and see him at some other convention..

Thanks for your replys-

Steve

Unfortunately, con men are always friendly and personable. I hate to think that of him. But he went down the wrong path.

Since I started this thread, I thought I'd update it:

One of Newt's "staff" named Veronica actually put a Company Knife in the mail and sent it to me when he was evidently "out of the office." I don't know to laugh or cry, because it appears she grabbed one off the bench or something before it was cleaned up (blade covered in grease), and stuffed it in a generic scabbard (it rattles around loose).

At this point, I guess I should count myself lucky that I have an actual completed knife to show for all the hassle. I'm still going to have to invest in a fitted kydex sheath from someone, because the one that came with it is truely junk. I would appreciate any suggestions for the kydex work...

But I actually have a "new" Livesay Company Knife. After everything I've read about Newt's practices lately, I guess I should consider myself in clover-

Thanks for all the feedback,

Steve

Steve, Newt's daughter Joda and her husband Darrel were trying for a while to sort out Newt's mess. Unfortunately, he's made a bigger mess than I suspect anyone can sort out.

Livesay knives? I've got a Woo which was bought from Joda, but I'd never deal with Newt at all again, based on his history. He's a very personable and knowledgeable guy, but so are a lot of folks with long and colorful histories of not delivering and other shenannigans.

I have quite a few of his knives, when he made them they were second to none...

I really question if all of these new in the wrapper Newt knives we see are really made by him or if someone in his family is putting them out.

I am very leary of buying them anymore....

If you are lucky enough to have his machete you have one of the best made! They take a SERIOUS beating!
