7:20 p.m.and the doorbell rings. My wife says "who can that be?".It's my buddy in brown from U.P.S.with a large white box.Rip open the box and WOW!
The details-the Livesay/Van Cook Sandbar Bowie was designed using a style of Bowie from an original Confederate Bowie made during the Civil War period in Arkansas. The blade is 1084 high carbon tool steel,& has black linen micarta scales.I love it.Thanks, Newt.I got that Great New Knife Feeling!
This is the #15 pictured on Newt Livesay's site. The picture does not do it justice.

Yep, the Sandbars are really good stuff. The UPS guy (a different one
wink.gif
) delivered # 6 to me just a few minutes after you received yours. I haven't had a chance to cut anything with it yet, but I'm pretty pleased with the package so far...seems like a lot of blade for the price. Definitely one of Newt's best efforts...

#13 has been here for a while...gotta love it! Sharp? Oh yeah
smile.gif
I was slicing tabloid sized sheets of newsprint almost the length of the blade!
If I was gunna pic nits, the edge grind wavers a little on one side, near the guard. It is no biggie to me and for the price...hey no problem!
The best were the reactions.
My wife was sittin' next to me when I opened the package. She actually shivered!
"Is that what you wanted?"
"Oh yeah!"
"As long as you like it..."
2 of my buddies (on the edge of knifeknutdom) both made the same unspellable caveman noise!
This deserves one of MSastre's Southern Comfort sheaths...Are ya listenin' Mike?
Are you sure of the steel type? I thought it was 1094...
Anyway great knife, great price and Newt is a great guy for puttin' up with us over on his forum

Still waiting on mine- Talked to Newt yesterday & it should be here any time now. Can't wait. Note to Sky & Ebb: you guys going to the NYC show in November? I think there should be a 1/2 dozen Sandbars among NYC forumites- time for a group shot.

Thanks, Ebbtide. There had been a bit of mis-comm at Newt's but it should have shipped last Thurs. I just followed-up anyway as Newt requested.

OK Brian, Now let's see if the service improves at Houlihan's in November!

Forget Houlihans and go to PJ Carneys...NW corner of 57 & 7th. Tell Hector the cook that Wally the fisherman sent you
wink.gif

If y'all want I can do a photo composite of the SBBOG (SandBar Bowie Owners Group) so we can include the nonNY members too

PJ Carneys brings back some memories. I used to work around the corner at 888 Seventh. Great burgers, IIRC.

I think the photo composite is a great idea. Thanks for volunteering. I'll take some pics this weekend.

Oh well, back to pressing my nose against the window, waiting for the brown truck of joy.

I'd have to drag out an old resume to give you exact dates but I think it was the early-mid 70s. IIRC, I moved between the 39 & 44 floors.

Jeez- I think know that bar too...

I worked @ 50th & B'way & 49th & 6th for a little while.
The "Owner's Group" shot sounds good. I'll get a photo as soon as the critter hits the porch.
