What is so good about the bk5 if you don't mind me asking?
o i missed this sorry. I have no qualms with you asking why the bk5 is my favorite becker blade, because its great and you should know why. Here goes:
The bk5 has IMHO the most workable of all the blade shapes, upswept. this blade shape DOES EVERYTHING. skin cut slice whittle chop baton look pretty etc etc etc etc etc. An upswept blade has more tip control (FLAME AWAY YOU DROP POINT FANBOYS) but its the truth. Put your index finger on the spine of an upswept blade and a drop point and try carving with the point, the point on the bk5 is above your finger, allowing it to act more like your finger, while a drop point is below and loses power. also the bk5 is longer than the bk7 but lighter! which makes it faster and an easier carry if you worry about weight (which if you hike you should). The only downside of the bk5 is that the full length swedge can chew up a baton but in reality your just going to burn that anyway.
Its called the magnum camp for a reason. This blade design has stood the test of time, its the knife the west was won with, that stars in my avatar and ice age 3, and will always be my choice.
