It's about that time for another Benchmade purchase and I thought it'd be beneficial to hear some suggestions from the BF community before making a decision. I currently have a 710, 940, 580, and 527. I'm looking for another 'classic' BM, along the lines of the 710 and 940. So, any suggestions would be appreciated. Alternatively, I'm curious if there's a consensus on the 'toughest' hard-use BM folder? Thanks for any input; have a good one Blade Forums-ers!

I suggest a BM Rift, IMO, it is one of the best Benchmade designs to date.

Worthy of any BM collection for sure

Hard use? Maybe the 755 MPR, but I don't feel the stubby handle and thick blade helps much. Aside from the 710, I can't recommend much other than the griptilian or bone collector for hard use.

I really appreciate the response thus far guys. The Bone Collector is one I've gone back and forth about before, as I probably will again. The AFCK and 805 remind me quite a bit of the 710. My buddy has a Rift, which I consider a 'hard-use' folder; however as much as I like the axis system, it's not the best hard-use lock. Anyone have experience with the 755 MPR; how do you like it?

knifeworks has 2 limited runs of discontinued bm's right now. afck and tsek. both in m390. get one or both :D

Well, other classics would be the skirmish, rukus and AFCK/TSEK (and their minis) - but they're all discontinued.
But there is a LE of the TSEK in m390 shipping right now... and there are still some left.

The toughest BM could be the 755 MPR -but I guess it's pretty short for hard use- (I don't like the ratio of length : thickness ;)) and the (mini) rukus and presidio have been considered tough as well.

I came ridiculously close to purchasing a knifeworks exclusive mini auto rukus; just don't like the idea of an axis hard use folder. I'm interested in the 755 MPR but, as has been cited here, the blade to handle ratio is questionable.

The 755 was too stubby IMO. Normally with a 3 inch or less knife you'd expect something more slim, but the handles and blade on the knife were quite thick. In fact, I found it TOO thick to be practical. Which is a shame given the outstanding performance of the m390 super steel. Lockup is solid with no blade play though:thumbup:.

The axis-lock works fine for hard use IMO, so long as you don't regularly try to chop down trees with your knife. Only thing with those is that they seem to be prone to developing blade play, though loctite should work fine for that. Just gave my 710-1 a good few whacks on the spine with no ill effects:thumbup:.

however as much as I like the axis system, it's not the best hard-use lock.

Why is that? Have you broken one?

I've seen videos of people beating the dog piss out of AXIS lock knives and they hold up. I remember one guy even stood on his.

The AXIS lock is very strong. There is a misconception that it's weak because of the omega springs. In reality when you abuse the knife, none of that force gets transmitted to the springs. The hardened AXIS bar takes all of the abuse. The springs are only there to guide the bar. If you really tried you could probably get the AXIS lock to fail (like just about any lock), but the last that's going to break is the springs.

You could look at one of the Ritter Griptilians with S30V. Even the regular griptilians are pretty good. I have the mini, and its one of the few benchmade knives that I actually like.

aside from that Idk what sort of thing fits ur criteria..

I'm looking at getting a triage. Having a nice rescue blade is always good as a back up.

What are you trying to do with this knife that makes you need a framelock over an axis?

Just wondering, I have been using axis locks for years and they have held up to everything so far.
