Next Champlin pattern in development?

Just caught a glimpse of a new set-up knife on the GEC website (see #68 Pony Jack link) that resembles a "plumber's whittler" that was being considered for the next Champlin pattern (see pic on that website). The knife on the GEC website only has two blades compared to the Champlin pic (a wharnie opposing a pen on a single spring).

...just went back to the GEC website to look at the knife again and it was gone!!!!

...so according to the JBF Champlin website it looks like a Plumber's Whittler will be the next pattern. This one, however, will be produced by Queen. Any thoughts? Will these be 1095 or D2? Assuming there's a shield, will it be pinned?

All questions that should be asked at the Champlin website!

Dave

Can someone post a link to the Champlin website?

These are going to be sweet and a real opportunity for a manufacturer to show what they can do!

You have a PM Jeff.

Below is my original unedited post which I am allowed to re-introduce into the thread now that said company is a paying vendor on Blade Forums.

That is the problem I have with Champlin knives. They are already being sold and none are made to see, it is not on their website that we can order or where to order. I dont want to have to write a company an email to see if I can buy a knife thats not made yet with no list of handle covers. The prototype hasn't even hit GEC's site yet and at least 20 sets are sold???? Sorry but as a consumer that wants to spend money this makes no sense to me, its not an equal playing field and thats fine. It has just personally put me off from the brand. Everyone is free to run their business how they see fit and I am glad they are successful but I dont ever purchase an intangible item. This happened with the Rosewood Eureka jacks as well and it was not posted anywhere. By the time I knew they where available to purchase(no previous mention anywhere, believe me, I pay attention) I emailed the company and was told I could buy a set only. I was not going to spend another $150+ dollars for a second knife I had no desire to own especially when GEC makes their own version after that is way cheaper.

I am not trying to attack the company in any way. I am simply spelling out my personal experience with them. My own observations and my personal, honest, opinion.

I will say that the Champlin Eureka and the GEC strandard production are different enough to warrant the extra money. That being said, since the JBFC guys are going with high end production makers buying it based on specs and pictures is just fine by me.

These knives will not be made by GEC. Not meant to be a comment ,just a statement.

Can you quantify that a little more?

Are we talking tangible differences? The reclaimed Rosewood would be a clear example of a tangible difference that one would expect to add to the cost/value, but I am wondering if they are built better somehow, and if they are how?
Matchstrike pulls, and a custom etching shouldn't really add much in actual cost.

I like what they are doing, and the sales prove the concept, but a 50% (or more) premium over what APPEAR to be basically the same knives in the Northfield trim is a pretty healthy premium for a private label product.
