Hello guys,
I would like to ask you to help me to choose my next EDC folding knife please. My budget is around 50$.

I am using RAT2 ATM and I am very happy with this knife...

I want to buy another EDC knife with slightly longer blade, so I can use it for food prep too. I want knife that does not look very showy and I dont like Spyderco design. :-)

My picks are RAT1, Kershaw Blur, Kershaw Skyline. What should I get? Any other tips are welcome. Thanks!

The Kershaw Blur in S30 is one of my all time favorites. I see them on the exchange frequently for around $50. That would be my first choice. Next would be the skyline. I really like that design and it's a great knife. I do like the Rat 1 but just prefer the kershaws more.

I don't know if you can still find them but the Kershaw tremor is a nice blade if you want something with some blade length.

Welcome to the forums! I can't say anything bad about the Rat. I would however suggest for the Kershaw side a blur of your favorite flavor ( they come in a ton of different colors and combinations) or alternatively I would suggest a kershaw JYD 2. The Junk yard dog 2 is a great knife and makes an excellent folding food prep edc. Good luck with your decision!

Thanks a lot for your inputs guys! I think it's gonna be Kershaw Blur. I am not an expert and I have also noticed they have a lot of different variations of Blur knife on the Amazon.

Is there a big difference between S30V (70$) and 14C28N (50$) blade?

Tremor and JYD2 are currently unavailable.Cheers!

Sandvik 14c28n is very easy to get a hair splitting edge on, and has good edge retention, but will need to be touched up on a regular basis. I own both and for food prep and other light duty use I prefer the 14c28n because of how sharp it gets easily. If you are using your knife for a lot of work cutting abrasive materials then S30V would be a better choice. It is harder to get a razors edge on it and seems to lose that edge faster (especially given the time it takes to get it there) BUT keeps a good working edge for much longer.

May I also suggest a Real Steel H6 S1 as an option.

For just a few dollars more, and some patient internet shopping - you could get a pair of RATs in different colors.

The RATs and the CS Voyagers are my standard fare beaters. Great value.

Ontario's knives seem to be pretty nice but I've had zero experience with them. Owned many Kershaws. I like them.

I would highly recommend the Rat1 in D2 they released not while ago. I'm using it every day and edge retention is outstanding compared to the old AUS8 they use.
I owe few Rat1, Rat2, Avispa and Zancudo, they are all pretty much on the same page, but IMO the D2 version makes the great design of Rat1, even better.
You will not go wrong with it, especially for the money they sell those right now. It's cheaper than any Kershaw in this price range, and the blade steel is much better.
I owe few Kershaws around this price range and even I love them all, the better steel of the Ontario puts it a step higher for me.
If you are already using Rat2, going to a larger size Rat1 will give you familiar feel, but with much better performance.

I love the Skyline a lot, but I don't think it would be the best choice for food prep and it's not much longer than the rat2. The blur is a solid knife. I love my rat1. Its in my pocket right now actually. And it is my recommendation. The real steel h6 is on my wish list though. All are great choices. Just go with the one the one that you like best

+1 on the Blur recommendations. There are many varieties of Blurs, so you should be able to find that's a bit more personalized to you. The RAT-1 is a great and practical knife as well, and the recent limited runs with the D2 blades are great value. The RAT-1 has a longer handle than the Blur, and the blade is just a tad shorter (3.25" vs. 3.5"). The Skyline is a great, compact EDC knife as well, but much smaller overall than both the RAT-1 and Blur. It is a little longer than your current RAT-2.

Here's an old shot I took that happens to have both RATs, as well as a Blur and Skyline (among others).

Here's another that shows those three a bit better:

The JYD2 is also a great knife, and the way the handle comes up off the cutting edge actually makes it work quite nicely for food prep. It is a bit larger than the Blur.

RealSteel H6 or H6-S1, whichever blade length suits you best. Way better than any version of the RAT.

Cheers! Do you have any idea where to buy (online) RAT1 D2? I have checked Amazon and cannot find it there.

Kershaw blur in s30v. It's tough and lightweight. If you like the rat 2, then get the rat 1. I have it and love it. I used to think Spyderco was ugly. But now I have 4 spydercos. Don't judge a book by its cover!
