Looking for a folding edc knife that can withstand constant fondling and impressing others with its sharpness. Ideally a knife that's fun to play with, smooth action and can cut shit, real well.

General cutting tasks would be cutting through plants(ranges from weeds to woody plants) and occasional food prep and anything thrown my way during the day.

Requirements:
under $175
Good blade steel
Blade Length between 3 - 3.3/4in

Knives currently being considered are:
-Paramilitary 2
-Kershaw Blur (s30v)
-Kershaw launch series (the 1 and the 3)

Welcome,

Just an FYI, a knife that is fun to play with and fondle as primary attribute need not be all that expensive or great. But you do want it to cut real well so, that's cool.

I do not own a PM2 but those who do tend to rave about it.
I have had a few different Blurs and loved them all. Even those who don't care for them seem to agree it's a great "starter" knife and very comfortable and useful.
If The Launch series are the "Manifold, Starter," etc, I don't own any yet but they appear to be of reasonable quality for reasonable price, as most of Kershaw's budget line is.

A hawkbill blade tends to be ideal for some if the primary task is cutting weeds, plants, etc, but then, it would likely make a poor kitchen duty knife.

For your price range you could also get 5 or so Ontario Rat 2 knives in various handle colors. :)

Hi and welcome!

Watch the language. This portion of the website is family friendly. I know you are new here and all, maybe go take a refresher on the rules you agreed to when you signed up.

Of the blades you mention I would take the PM2. It is fun to play with but is also extremely functional in its one hand operation.

Thank you for the suggestions, I apologize for my violation. I love the design languages of all of these knives but when it comes down to it I want something functional that will last and I will enjoy carrying. I love the Paramilitary 2 but what stops me from hitting 'place your order' is the general similarities as other spyderco's I own, and with the basic 3 models being the only ones readily available it doesn't set it too far apart from my black tenacious, and my black manix 2. Though if I could find the black on black para 2 without being crazy marked up I'd probably pull the trigger

This is the perfect description of a PM2.

I took a look at the rules. I don't see anything about that there. Either way, jumping on a new guy on his first post publicly for such a small thing seems like poor taste. Recommending the PM2, much better taste.

Welcome to the forums, Evan. I hope you stay a while.

Check out the PM2, if you don't plan to hack apart trees with it, you'll be very impressed. I picked one up a few years ago to see what all the hype was about and they really are very nice knives. I personally prefer to carry around something a little beefier, but I do enjoy playing with it on occasion.

No worries. It happens to a lot of folks. Even happened to me if you can believe that! I think you can edit your post to change that one word.

I have had plenty of liner locks in 8CR or AUS8 but not the Tenacious specifically though I did have the Resilience. I don't see the Tenacious being on the same level as the PM2. The Manix is another story. Very good knife. I do like the Compression lock on the PM2 better though. It is just a pleasure to use for me. What about something from Benchmade? Or how about the ZT 566?

Sorry to be that guy lol.

Back on topic... you can't go wrong with the Blur or PM2. Both are excellent knives that will give you many years of enjoyment.

Have you taken a look at the Kershaw Skylines?

Kizer and DPx also have some nice offerings.

And on the other hand, you can pick up a couple ESEE Zancudo's for the price of one other knife.

I'm never one to encourage not buying a knife but if you already have a Manix 2 you might already be set, unless you're looking for a dedicated plants and kitchen utility tool.

I've had many PM2's. I did collect them at one point, but they're long gone. It remains my favorite folding knife. The compression lock is just plain fun to operate with this model. I do agree that the black on black version is exceptionally striking in appearance.

The Benchmade Ritter Griptilian is a very good knife with a steel, m390, that makes it a great bargain. If you want a black on black knife that is very strong and makes a great edc cutter, get the Cold Steel American Lawman in xhp steel. You can t "play" with it so much, but as a user it s right up there with the pm2.

I've looked at the skylines more specially the bladehq ones with the more premium materials, like the designs not so much a fan of the slimness. I was actually looking at Kizer's today but most videos on them give biased view because they're not American made.

An Emerson CQC-7 fits nearly all your criteria, they can be found just over your stated top price. Some people love Emerson, some hate them... I'm in the former group.

Seriously? You yourself only have 24 posts in general. It is called getting a feel for the place. Try reading the part in "infractions" about inappropriate language. Also look at the TOS. Post with respect. Especially a first post. You can get dinged for such things. I know. I was early on for less than what the OP said. Sorry if your sensibilities were offended by me trying to lead a first time poster down the correct path.

And to the OP, take a look on the exchange here. PM2s of all different varieties come up often. I think a B/B one sold just today or yesterday.

Though if I could find the black on black para 2 without being crazy marked up I'd probably pull the trigger

Like craytab said. One sold yesterday for under $100. You could hold out and hope one pops up again in the exchange; cheapest I could find them online from reputable dealers was $134.

I believe he was using it in the noun form...

So now I have 25 posts right, cray? Are we going by post count now? I'm at 25 now, right? Will you keep counting for me please, it gets tricky after 25. I've been here six years longer than you. I'm just not as loud.

Just saying, welcome to the forum Evan. I hope you have a good experience here. As I stand corrected, watch your verbage :)

Yeah scrolled through, it sold for 95 bucks would've snatched that up, guess I'll keep an eye out.
Anyone have any thought on the Spyderco Domino's or the sages

Not as loud for sure, if anything I am that. You are also not as active

Funny thing about counting posts is the website counts your posts and even where you post them! I don't have to do it! I can just look it up! Go figure.

Yup, just keep an eye out. That is where I got my PM2, at a time when they were much harder to find. Everyone paid more at that time too. This is truely a good time to get in on the PM2 as since the availability has come up the price has gone down. I have gotten about half my knives from the exchange. It is one of the great resources here. But again, before you get involved over there, refresh yourself on the rules and watch for a bit to get a feel for the place.
