So what happens when you finally got all the knives you could ever want or use?
I've also got all the fishing lures, trout flies,die-cast cars already too!

It would be impossible for me to have all of the knives I could ever want because:

-I want them all.
-I don't make enough money to buy them all.
-The drug dealers (i.e. knifemakers and companies) keep making new models.

Seriously though, if I stop being "in the mood to buy knives", I will just go back to buying guitars, amps, and car and motorcycle stuff. I tend to go through cycles where I focus on one thing (rather than buying a guitar here, a knife there). But I never abandon a hobby- I just take breaks.

But with knives, there is no end is site for me. I really think I have found my perfect hobby.

I don't need anyone else to enjoy knives (i.e. I don't need to have someone with me, as with hobbies like paintballing).
I can enjoy knives at any hour (i.e. I don't need to wait for a certain time of day, like riding).
I can enjoy knives by myself, at any hour, and in my home, outside, and even at work. It is a hobby that doesn't end when I go to work!

I also like that knives are cheap. I can get a good knife for 20 bucks or less (Opinel, Mora, SAK etc...) or a modern quality folder for 50-100 bucks. High-end production knives are 100-600 bucks, with most customs not exceeding 800 bucks.

With guitars, quality *STARTS* around 800 bucks and goes well into several grand. I definitly want to expand my guitar collection, but the 10 I have now make me happy enough for now. For the price of one good guitar, I can get many, many great knives. At the moment, that is what I would prefer to do.

Used motorcycles can be cheap, but for a good one, even used, you are looking at several grand. More realistically it is 5 to 15 grand. Motorcycle gear can be fun and compares to knives in terms of prices. But my 250 dollar Alpinestars GP Tech gloves and 400 dollar Sidi Vertigo Corsa boots haven't given me nearly as much joy as my Skirmish alone has. Even my 20K Dodge SRT-4, though very good at getting me places, didn't give me as much joy as several of my knives have.

A new guitar does give me as much joy as a new knife, but for the same amount of joy a knife is much cheaper.

Knives let me get a "hobby fix" very easily, cheaply, and often. And it is a hobby I can enjoy 24/7. Alone in my room, at the store, or at work.

I can't see any reason for this hobby to stop being a part of my life. I do have other hobbies and other loves. Knives don't ket me express myself like playing guitar has, nor have knives made me a lot of money like playing and teaching guitar has. And knives don't get me from A to B like a car or motorcycle can. But the knife bug has bitten me hard. VERY hard. There is no cure, only treatment. And the treatment is to buy more knives.

Well I doubt I'll ever get over knives - but I've been doing alot of looking around the web at archery sights and compound bows. Used to shoot as a kid and loved it. Seems a good bow these days is about a grand w/ all the extras. Great, another expensive hobby(scuba, motorcycles, guitar, guns...):o

You guys are great..I got 2 compound bows & 1 recurve already. I guess a new Yamaha acoustic guitar is next to accompany my electric.
I got a kayak that is a blast too!!

What's next?

Flashlights, lighters, canons, Hot Wheels, skulls, motorcycles, cars, guns, kites, coins and the list goes on.

I'll never really finish accumulating knives, there's too many out there that I don't have yet.

I'll continue drawing, horse riding, aikido training, muaythai and skating. And oh yeah, I'll start collecting guns :)

I'm into guns, knives, and flashlights.

I've got a couple AR15's that I love, but gun collecting is a much more expensive hobby. :(

"So what happens when you finally got all the knives you could ever want or use?"

I don't believe that that IS possible!! Yeah, and I too am into guns, knives, and flashlights too.

I have several different hobbies that i rotate around too...I will obsess on one for a month or so and then focus on another for a month, each time spending great amounts of money on new stuff for that particular hobby. Knives are my newest interest, I have been on this one for about 5 months now.......I will always be buying knives, because new knives will always interest me. John

I went from guns ("prebans") to flashlights (Surefire) to knives. I think I'll now concentrate on finding a wife!

I started with guns, and ended up with a small arsenal including 11 Glocks, plus a few 1911s, CZs, HPs, Kahrs, AKs and ARs, and revolvers. Next to flashlights, where I have everything from a Surefire X10 Dominator to several modified Maglites to pleny of small, expensive and bright EDC lights. Knives fit in there too, but I have much to learn. I do this slow loop between concentrating on guns, lights and knives. When I grow weary of one, another jumps up and I start all over.

I'm not sure what hobby to take up after knives.

You could alway collect WWII vintage aircraft?

You could start makin' em:D I started the other way - I started with knife kits, made some tool steel hunters (1095, 1084, 01), then started leatherwork (they do need sheaths), and then started collecting. Ran out of time last year in the making knife part (I did mostly stock removal on my own stuff), but did a pile of leatherwork, and bought a pile of knives:) These forums gave me all the info I needed. Gives you a good excuse to start "collecting" shop tools:)

Ham radio, music, flashlights, firearms, reading, chess, games, woodworking, guitar building, knife making, sports nut, writing, collecting (your choice; coins, Hotwheel cars, stamps, etc. You get the picture...), computer programming, Oh jeez, I'm running out of ideas... everything mentioned in earlier posts,

There's plenty of hobbies you haven't explored yet!:D :D

I guess some of us have a lot in common...

As far as collecting, I bounce around from firearms to cutlery and some other things.

I started hunting in my teens which led to an interest in firearms, cutlery and gear. As I got older I became more interested in target shooting, I started to collect WWII & milsurp firearms. I've always accumulated knives but got interested in higher end knives last year.

I'm also interested in classic cars, and I collect / restore old tube radios from the 20's , 30's & 40's.

Forums like this really enhance hobbies, before the Internet it would be impossible to bring together so many people with like interests.

I have only one hobby at one time and it lasted long. For ten years I was crazy about photography, for ten years I played computer games for few hours every day.
I just get into knives, so I have about ten years not to worry about anything else

Drawing, painting, wood carving, would like to get into knife making

Things that go boom and come in all kinds of calibres :)

used to be into collecting comics and comic book original artwork, no money to be made in either, I just buy it for my own enjoyment now, and it's not bringing enjoyment for me

used to be into baseball cards, just have O's cards now, sold a lot of cards when I was a young teen to buy comics

used to weightlift every day, then got some bad back and chest cartilage problems from a car accident, and decided to start walking instead, was walking 3-5 miles a day, now it's a challenge for me to walk for a half hour

used to go to the movies all of the time, was building a big dvd collection, but see no reason in keeping a movie I'll only watch once and put on the shelf, same with cd's

used to go out drinking with friends all of the time, but now I just go and have a few drinks and enjoy the music/t&a/eye candy etc

sharp things have gotten more expensive, but I'm still buying them

graphic design fun, manipulating photos on the puter, looking at information systems for a job

starting to cook some real meals for myself, would like to learn how to cook some specific dishes

reading, my passions have gone from sci fi/fantasy to history, biographies etc (Maximus, when are you gonna write that book?)

posting on BF about everything and anything ;)

after looking at post 6, I can't believe I forgot boats. I'm starting off with small, under 20 ft outboards now, along with a canoe I am planning on buying.
